Sooooooo.......I've been a member here for 4 years or so but just started trading, and have come across my first azzhat. Here's the deal:

He posts an ISO looking.for multiple bottles of a particular beer I have access to in exchange for a beer he will have access to shortly.(pre release) We settled on numbers and it was all supposed to be done and he'd
    pick up last friday.

Since we made the deal his beer has exploded with people making crazy offers for.it.

Shortly after that, I start hearing excuses from him as to.why he may not.deliver, the best being he had to.take.care of his buddies, but he'd try to.get to me. It's clear from his messages that he had the bottles he promised me, he was just giving and trading them to.other people.

If he had asked how we could work it, or how he could make it right I wouldn't be so pissed. But his attitude from the beginning has been, this is what I'm doing, deal with it.

finally he became downright nasty ( apparently because I had the balls to ask of he was going to honor the deal he made or not)

He last message, the most laughable of all, is that he has had the bottles since yesterday, but now doesn't want to trade because I was rude to him. Again, I guess because I expected him to honor his word after a week of necking me around. Go figure.

not to.mention the fact that he has screwed up other trades I could have made for my bottles because I had to.sit on them waiting on him

So. I already know what I think. What say you?

This is why pretrades are stupid, just don't do it. You might have lowballed him on the pretrade and/or he probably got a better offer afterwards.

I'm not sure this qualifies on bad trader. I'm not sure I like what he did, but if you hadn't solidified via trade request, hadn't sent addresses, etc. I'm not sure his welching on a pre trade agreement gets him 'outed' to the world. That being said, I have a few trading partners I deal with regularly, and I may warn them via BM of this just to be careful.

Was a trade request accepted? If so I think an outing is in order. If not its still a dick maneuver but I would just add him to your do not trade list and move along.

Edit: looks like jshusc beat me to it.

Sounds like you went right to the brink of finalizing the trade but I think we usually don't consider it a done deal unless info is exchanged. To be sure, it sounds like he dicked you around a bit - especially since he asked you to ship at certain time - and it seems like poor form on his part and makes him someone I would probably avoid

lol. I was being vague because if you guys say it's my issue, then it's my issue and that's that. People privately want to know I'll tell you, but I didn't want to.publiclyabel someone if people.see no problem with this.

People bitch and moan about the feedback system, but this is EXACTLY what its there for. You agree to a trade, initiate it in the system, and once both parties accept, there is no backing out (which means you better be damn sure if pre-trading).

If one / both parties dont accept a trade thru the system, then there is no trade in place imo, would have moved on after a day or two (of course there are exceptions, like repeat partners you are comfortable with).

I mean, its really pretty simple - no?

As much as this sucks for you and was not really cool to do, its not a bad trader IMO. You are out nothing other than some frustration and missing out on possible trades as you mentioned (although this is infinitely better than sending a box and getting nothing in return, which is my def. of bad trader)

He asked you to ship yesterday? And he cancelled today?

What was the beer you wanted?

I feel a person is free to back out unless their trading partner has shipped. Is this a douchey move? Yes, but may not warrant public outing. An exception would be if you went out of your way to get somebody something then they decide they don't want it

I agree with what others have said here. I don't really think the guy is a bad trader, but he doesn't seem like someone I would want to deal with, especially with the messages you said he sent you.

I don't really like the idea of pre-trading either. Things can always change, so why not just wait until you have the bottles in hand?

If no addresses were exchanged, and the trade wasn't entered in the system, I say just move on. It doesn't sound like you are out any beer.

Thanks for the feedback people. Lesson learned, but at least I know not to deal with this guy in the future. Given his conduct I suppose it could have turned out much worse

in fairness to him I was already planning to go the brewery so it wasn't a special trip.

In fairness to me, he specifically told me the more bottles I could get, the better. So I did wind up buying quite a few more than I planned on. No big deal I can drink them or would have no trouble trading them. But yes, I did something I hadn't planned on based on his statement "the more bottles the better"

In the long run those who try to maximize every last ounce of beer they have like they were making a stock trade miss out on making long lasting, mutually beneficial trading partners and friends. It sucks when you run into those people, but if you like to trade to share great beer with people in the long run you will be much happier then people who try to maximize every last ounce of beer when they trade.
