I know they use a julian date, year followed by day. So a Ballast Point date will read something like 15300. I usually do find that the label is blank or smudged. Horrible, with a billion dollar purchase one would think that they would be able to afford a clear readable date, hopefully that is soon to follow.

They have a date, it's usually, my experience, white lettering on the bottom right of the label and is alphabet soup every time I try to read it...

It's a helluva lot easier to read than Ballast Point's. They used to be easy to read, but now, every time I check, I can't even read it. The trick to Lagunitas is to hold the neck up to the light. Much easier to read the date that way. Regardless, it shouldn't be so difficult to check the bottle date on these offerings brewed by BILLION DOLLAR companies.

I'd like to hear from brewers or bottling line employees on this one. Is your equipment incapable of printing a date like these?

A trick I use to get appx date is divide by 30 (and add 1 if there is a remainder) to get the month. So 15245 would be 240/30 = 8, so early September appx. And 15176 would be late June. I think that works out .

Unfortunately others have mentioned, figuring out the number to use on BP bottles is a harder challenge than any math.
