Ballast Point - Grapefruit Sculpin (Cans)

    Had some in bottles courtesy of Jay, above. I don't think it tasted at all like a shandy; the choice (and amount) of grapefruit perfectly complemented the natural Sculpin hop profile. It was a natural match.

    It does taste a little bit acidic; there's a very organic taste and feel to the grapefruit in there. But again, it's perfectly complementary. Hands down the best "fruit added" IPA I've tried - which is, admittedly, a rather short list.

    I've seen two batches in Norcal in the past 2 months, not sure what that means long term...but if this gets brewed every 6-8 weeks color me happy! Cans would be just an added bonus.

    Grapefruit Sculpin is world class, I actually think it enhances regular Sculpin. I had Habanero Sculpin and the heat just overwhelmed the beer, not a good combination. Grapefruit just adds a little something extra, really good! I would love to try it in a can.

    Had it on tap last night at The Grill Next Door in Haverhill, MA. I thought it was fantastic. Sculpin on steroids!

    I'll be looking for this - I'm assuming any grapefruit flavor comes from the hops used and not from added grapefruit juice (?)

    I am pretty sure that there is in fact some kind of grapefruit/grapefruit extract added to the beer and that the flavor is not just a result of hop varieties...just like the habanero sculpin. Fwiw i have been iso this beer for years and finally got to try it this weekend while i was visiting san diego...it did not disappoint. The only problem for me is that now regular sculpin is just that, regular sculpin.

    No. The grapefruit flavor is not just from they hops. They use real grapefruit juice in this beer.
