    Latest news from Ballast Point:

    ----

This new IPA rises above the rest.
We’ve developed many IPA recipes in our R&D program, but right from the tank, our Manta Ray Double IPA was a winner. Aromas of fresh, citrusy tangerine, melon and light pine leap from the beer and linger over a smooth finish. Like its namesake, this brew can sneak up on you – a big ABV without a bite.

Here are some key stats on the beer:

    · 8.5% ABV - “approachable double IPA”

    · 70 IBUs

    · 2016 Euro Beer Star gold medalist

    · Available year-round in 6pack 12oz bottles. (Suggested retail $14.99)

    · Food pairings: Chinese Salt & Pepper Wings, Bay Blue Cheese, Dungeness Crab Cakes

Nice. I can just about always support a new DIPA. We'll see if I end up picking up a 6er of it though. I feel like some of Ballast Point's beers are hit or miss, and if this one carries the same price point as Grapefruit Sculpin, I'll have to pass unless I can buy an individual bottle.

When will it be available in New England? Will probably pick up a few singles from the local shop to try.

love me some Dorado but it shows up here always 3-4 months old already and their flavored adjuncts all taste artificial to me

I really enjoy some of Ballast Point's brews. When they first started distributing to Missouri, we got everything fresh for about a month, so I haven't really had a chance to experience their distribution practices. I am starting to find that a lot of their stuff just sits and sits and sits though. If I can find fresh Manta Ray, I'll try it, but I won't be heartbroken if I can't.

I did avoid their Peppermint/Coconut Victory at Sea because of the comments on the artificial taste. Don't get me wrong, I really wanted to try them, I love Victory at Sea, but I figured I could spend the $20 on beer that I would enjoy more.

Wondering what the hop bill is for this one?

    Quick check Facebook/website revealed nothing.

From the OP: "Available year-round in 6pack 12oz bottles. (Suggested retail $14.99)."

I will personally so "no" to buying a 6-pack of this new beer. Plenty of other high quality DIPAs out there that are reasonably priced.

    Cheers!

Are you saying $15 is unreasonable for a 6-pack of DIPA?

I am saying that I can obtain high quality DIPA beers at a more economical price than 15 bucks a 6-pack and that is where my money will go,

    Cheers!

My beer nerd co-worker told me he finally tried Victory at Sea and he said he hated it. I couldn't understand why he didn't like it, but this might explain it. Makes me want to try one out of curiosity, but I'll pass.

I want to try this to see if BP finally made an IPA I actually enjoy, but not for the price of a six pack.

Speaking of BP, I saw some 120 julian dated GF Sculpin hit my area last week. The reward for drinking all the semi old stuff was some really old stuff. I can't support that. Distributor issue? Most likely. But still. As with most new things, my area has one chance to drink stuff semi fresh and its hard to say no.

So while one TW store was stocking 120 jd gf sculpin as "new", the other stuff had 334. So something is iffy for sure.

11.99? Sure, and I'd love BCBS to be priced at $5 a bottle. You can count on your hand the number of DIPA sixers which are nationally available for 11.99 and still have fingers left over.

@JackHorzempa, I couldn't agree more...$2.25 a bottle is a bit steep for an 8.5% ABV DIPA. Evil Twin Molotov Cocktail 12oz cans cost about the same, but the beer clocks in at 12% ABV. However, Lagunitas Hop Stoopid (8% ABV) cost well under $2/bottle (~$10.99 6'er).

BCBS isnt really comparable to a six pack of DIPA, a few years ago it was common to see $15 DIPA six packs but the market has gotten saturated and 11.99 is common now, I have even seen dorado and vistory at sea go for 12.99

Then again I live in nyc and can imagine rural areas being more expensive
