I think he's getting at the demand for Sculpin, but I think price of production factors in heavily. Demand for both could be the same and Sculpin would still be more expensive.

I had a pint of Sculpin at Grumpy's NE today. From what I remember of ECON101 I would expect the price to drop soon as the opportunity cost from competition is much more favorable for my discretionary income.

Not to thread jack, but someone please explain the Saga love. Great price point for a slightly above average IPA. So many better options in a similar price range. I'd argue if it wasn't Summit there'd be no love for it. Let the attack begin...

Yup, it's solid, but so what. Sculpin is worth the money. And if you don't think so, don't buy it. Plenty of other people will.

I suppose there's no accounting for taste, but I much prefer Sculpin over Big Eye and I think that's the general sentiment here in SD. Maybe my palate is wrecked from drinking so many West Coast IPAs but Big Eye tastes almost like a Pale Ale. Both are quality beers and Ballast Point is probably my favorite local brewery because they do so many styles well. Love me some Victory at Sea . . . .

Pff- everyone knows the general principals of economics do not apply to beer.

I get it. You love Saga. In fact, in the last 18 months, you have posted this same sentiment, or something awfully close, 29 times. Really: http://beeradvocate.com/community/search/28564826/?q=Saga&o=date&c[user][0]=117371

Now back to Sculpin. Extra. Tasty. Crispy.

Find me another $1 a bottle IPA that tastes as good. All Summit has to do now is put it in cans.

I was (apparently unsuccessfully) making a joke based on the premise that there are only two fundamental principles behind basic economic theory, and yet I could only remember one of them, and not the other one which he was hinting at. Perhaps a winking smiley face was in order.

Guess I'll leave the stand-up to Margaret Cho.

Drinking Sculpin right now. Hot damn, this is a nice IPA. Easily one of the best (if not the best) that is available all year.

Ok, maybe, but ill send the extra couple bucks on Torpedo, Inversion, Two Hearted, Odell's, or even Furious, Ethos, Overrated and others to get an IPA worthy of purchase based on flavor not price. If I want cheap beer I'll assume an IPA is not an option.

Bought a 12 pack of Sagá, 6 of Big Eye and 6 of Sculpin last week. Made the old lady pour me 3 tasters to do a blind comparison. I could not decide on a winner even though I guessed all 3 correctly. Sculpin probably had the best nose, Big Eye was very bitter and tasted distinctly of Centennial hops, Sagá, dry and dank, a true West Coast IPA with some funky ass hops. I liked the combo so much, even though I still have 6 Sagá and 3 each of the BP IPAs, I bought the same combo today...and a 6 of SN Flipside, which tastes fine, as in it tastes like every other SN hoppy beer. Very generic and no where close to the others mentioned as far as my preference is concerned. All said, for anywhere from 10.99-12.99 a twelve pack, Sagá destroys the competition. A world class IPA that is unbelievably affordable.

Riddle me this. Sculpin per oz. costs less than size 7. Crazy.

Are you going by the growler price?
I'd take fresh Size 7 over Sculpin personally (although the 6er of Sculpin I bought in IL was 2 mos old).

You can argue brewery A's IPA price point vs brewery B's IPA price point all day long and get nowhere. What I am asking is why Ballast Point's 7% 70 IBU IPA costs nearly twice what Ballast Point's 7% 75 IBU IPA costs? If we want to get down to brass tacks, Masala Mama kicks the shit out of both, taste, per oz, unicorn farts, whatever.
