Interesting. Respect your opinion, and I've heard others say this, but I have to disagree. I was pretty unimpressed by this beer overall. Maybe my expectations were just too high.

One man's "really complex" beer is another man's "too much going on here and it's a hot mess" beer.

Which vintage Dark Lord did you have?

When I had Baller at DLD, I was pretty impressed with it, considering I wasn't a huge fan of it fresh. However, the same was the case with the 2011 Dark Lord that I cracked one week later. Obviously didn't have them side by side, so it's kind of hard for me to say which one I really liked better.

Had Baller side by side with 11' DL and BA DL and preferred the BA DL to all, then the 11' DL then Baller. I agree with kdmcguire10 in that I may have had too high of expectations. My friend who went to the release said Baller was the best beer there.

I've got to ask because I hear many people mention something like what you said, why would you buy multiples of a beer and not even try one yet after six months?

I too prefer drinking from the pond vs. the toilet.

I have not had Baller Stout, but I can say Dark Lord was easily one of the biggest disappointments I have experienced with a beer. I've probably had 2 dozen shelf Imperial Stouts that I'd prefer to DL. I know its all personal preference, but it was a miss with me.

I agree Baller is better than DL.
Better beers are in Baller than straight DL.

    Cheers!

I had the DLD 12 and Baller Stout side by side about 4 weeks ago. And I had baller stout winning, but by a nose. It was not as sweet as DLD, but baller had an interesting kick to it. Interested to see how both age.

Have never tried Baller Stout but cracked open a 2010 DL last Saturday and was pretty disappointed. Such is the hype.

I have been left unimpressed by both beers. Baller had potential if it were blended to taste. Dumping equal parts of each beer only reminds me of an adult reliving their childhood at a fountain pop machine. I guess if I were to pick one I would go with Baller but that is not a very enthusiastic recommendation.

I've not had Baller Stout, but if I created two lists, one of stouts better than Dark Lord and one of worse, the former would be significantly longer than the latter. Being better than DL is a pretty small accomplishment IMO.

Cracked an 09 DL recently and IMO it was phenomenal. Need to do a side by side.

it was the 2012 version. I've had 2008 dark lord and it blows that and anyother vintage of dl out of the water so far that i've had.

I agree that I enjoyed Baller Stout over DL. The other blend of beer such as Darkness seemed to cut out the overly sweet and sugary taste of Darklord. DL made me feel like I was going to get diabetes...and I do already have diabetes.
