My buddy is, i really want to go but my wife, baby and I will be spending Easter Weekend with my parents, can make it from North Jersey, but don't think my wife would be too happy
Would love to get to one of these Get Real events, but the last couple have fallen on days that I couldn't take off from work.
I went and it was ridiculous. $49 for VIP tix on thrillist(would have been $85 after fees full priced) Soooooooooooo many meatballs. And a taplist that is better than anything I've ever seen at a bar/event in my life. Bout 75 beers and 8 or so casks(75min, sculpin, etc) Hill Farmstead Edward seemingly on endless supply since it was such a small event. My strategy of trying as many of the meatballs and new beers as possible in the 1 hour VIP session slowed me down a little later on. Tales from A'porkalypse led me to believe the event would be oversold and filled with insane lines. This was not the case. Just the right amount of people. More hot girls than at ACBF and at about 1/20th the crowd too. No lines really at all. Mighta waited 30 seconds once. The pourers were not volunteers but hired bartenders so while they didn't really know what they were talking about for the most part, their professionalism forced them to at least read what they were pouring and probably some tasting notes provided to them by the Get Real crew. Can't wait til the next Get Real beer/food event. Talked to Anne at the end of the night and they are in the planning stages of something great. Think they're just looking for an outside space. This location could have been more convenient to get to but knowing where it is now I would have driven and not wasted the 20 minutes waiting for trains for a 7 minute train ride. I liked that it was all about the beers and balls though. There was no marketing or lobbying by brewery employees. No Sam no Bud no Magic Hat. Just the best beer Anne and the GRNY crew could find. It didn't feel like a beer festival. It felt like a private party with 300 or so friends. There were 1 or 2 beer reps there but they were there on their own time to enjoy great beer and great food. Final thoughts...there was an inside out wonton with soup on the inside and the best little meatball parm sliders with fresh ricotta. I was at the 2nd session and the woman at the soup meatball station said I was the first person all day to just put the whole thing in my mouth and she had been waiting all day for someone to do that so they wouldn't squirt soup everywhere. Also Sculpin on cask pretty much blew my mind. I was kind of hoping for some sort of sweet ball because everything was savory and I needed a change of pace. But even the veggie ball was delicious and I'm a super picky eater. Mostly tomato based sauces. There was one that was 8.5% bacon and was pan fried with no sauce that kicked some a$$. All in all just a ridiculously solid event and I look forward to the next one. Next party is the Brooklyn Gold Standard Kellerbier. Although I was told I had the base of that beer at Blind Tiger wednesday night. Was a little buzzed but something about how they're finishing it differently is going to make it the next Brewmaster beer. Just hope they have Brooklyn Summer cans lying around like they did at the Brewmaster party around this time last year.
Unfortunately I wasn't able to make it, but heard it was a blast and very well done. I'm going to try to make it out to the next one that's being organized.
Just saw this now. I went, it was a pretty good event. The meatball parm with ricotta cheese was definitely the best meatball. Was looking forward to the elk and venison ones but were underwhelming. The Mexican one with the egg inside was great too. Could've also been cause the guy was drunk serving it. Really liked green flash's palate wrecker. The 75min on cask was pretty good. The sculpin on cask seemed more grassy then citrusy . And the pale from hillstead was great. Also the lagunitas imp stout on cask had me coming back.
That sandwich was pretty awesome. My #2 was the inside out wonton with the soup in the middle. 75 minute cask was amazing as it always is. I liked how Sculpin tasted a little different on cask. I had 7 or 8 pours of Hill Farmstead Edward. I'm happy it wasn't a geeky crowd because it it was that would have kicked in about 20 minutes. Ton of hot chicks. I need to go to all of these get real ny festivals.
