Hello Collective BA Hive Brain, I’m vacationing in Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. What are the must-see, must-drink beers and breweries here?
I have no personal experience here but I have heard great things about the beers from Põhjala Brewery in Estonia. I would most definitely seek out their beers especially the Baltic Porter. Cheers! P.S. Please report back you overall beer drinking experiences!
In Estonia: Get some beers from Põhjala, Jaanihanso, Sori, Vaat, A. Le Coq, Must Lips, Lehe Pruulikoda. In Latvia, try beers from: Ārpus, Malduguns, Aldaris, Lido, Alķīmiķis, Lacplesis. In Lithuania, try beers from: Sakiškių. and as many countryside nano breweries you can visit. Also make sure to sample some Lithuanian meads.
Thank you JackHorzempa and Sigmund, I was able to visit 21 locations and try over 100 beers during my 5-week vacation. Overall, I appreciated the quality, although in Finland the anti-alcohol laws seemed to limit the creativity of the brewers. Nevertheless, a great trip and I do appreciate your input on the many possibilities. Steve
Põhjala is probably best choice. Baltic States entered beer market not so long time ago, as they prefer "stronger alcohols" due to weather conditions. Even recommended Põhjala focuses on porters and stouts. I cannot recommend anything from Latvia or Lithuania - nothing that would impress anybody assosiated with USA craft.
