Threshold Brewing is hosting a Baltic Porter Invitational this Saturday, January 18, from noon to 9 p.m. Brewpublic says: During the event, the Baltic Porter will be the highlight with versions being served from 10 different Pacific Northwest breweries. The list of breweries includes Threshold’s award winning Neptune Baltic Porter and guest taps from Single Hill Brewing, Wander Brewing, Away Days, Zoiglhaus Brewing, ForeLand Beer, Little Beast Brewing and more. In addition, Threshold will be serving its famous Zapiekanka – a pizza-reminiscent Polish street food – and its full Pierogi menu of stuffed dumplings including Potato and Farmer’s Cheese, Caramelized Onion and Potato, and Mushroom and Cabbage. Then at 2:00pm in the brewhouse, there will be a Polish bottle share. There’ll be a selection of Polish imports thanks to special guest Pawel Pilat, owner of Poland’s first privately owned hop breeding program Polish Hops. Guests are welcome to bring their own Polish beer to the share as well for all to enjoy!
Have never been to Threshold Brewing, but this sounds like fun. And what do you know, they're only a couple minutes from Roscoe's. Hmmmm...
I gotta give them a shout-out, they seem to work hard to put on lots of fun stuff throughout the year. They also have a Grödskie fest as well, and some folks make fantastic versions of that smoke beer. They also host a 5K up and back on Mt. Tabor and just in general are keeping Stark St. interesting. And then, yes, a walk to Roscoes after!
Well this guy is going to try and talk his IPA-loving wife into a visit to Roscoe's tomorrow. Stone IRS is great stuff and I would love to drink some for old times' sake. Good food, WCIPAs, easy access via public transit...I like my chances.
I'll likely see you there. I'm going to bip on over to threshold briefly, but will then bip on over to Roscoe's. Probably get there around 3.
Starting the day at Threshold brewing, where there's a mob scene for the Baltic Porter event (the line for beer is out the door). Got a flight of the Buoy, Foreland, Little Beast and Stormbreaker. The Stormbreaker is a ba version, which seemed odd, but I had to try. The Buoy seems to be the best of the bunch, though nothing is really bad. The Foreland seems to be the least impressive. Fun event! Finishing with a weee pour of Wander global mutt and the Neptune from Threshold. The Neptune might be the best Baltic porter I've tried today, which I didn't see coming. It's a very well balanced, easy drinking BP. And the abv is a pidling 8%. The global mutt is difficult to assess, as I think they're pouring it too cold. Liking it more and more as it warms.
The Kine was really nice. But dangerous. For an +8% it disappears fast. Two the Kines and one Rolling Thunder…and I woke up this morning feeling the effects. Gotta shake it off though, cards tonight with the boys.
I echo everything here and am happy to live walking distance away. The owner / brewer Jarek makes some excellent beers, as mentioned, many with ties to his home country of Poland. His Baltic porter Neptune is easily my favorite in town. The rest of the staff is fun too. Sadly, I was out of town for this event. Sounded like a good one.
Could also wander over to Tinker Tavern and sober up with some buffalo wings, various other snacks, and a few Labatt Blues. They also have a pretty solid taplist if Labatt's isn't your thing. As a matter of fact, I probably should've added Tinker to the restaurants section of the Visiting Portland thread.
