I may be going to a wedding in the Baltimore area mid-July, near the Smith Avenue area. What breweries should I visit? I saw a cluster of 3 breweries about 10 minutes away per Google Maps (Waverly, Union, Nepenthe). What's the parking situation in the area when you do hit breweries?

Closest breweries to Smith Avenue area are Nepenthe and Union, 10 to 20 minute drive depending on traffic. Nepenthe is street parking so hit or miss. Take some time to stroll down the "avenue", 36th street, plenty of bars and restaurants to enjoy. The Wine Source, one of the area's best bottle shops is right in the area. Union is about a 15 minute walk from Nepenthe in the opposite direction.

Depends on your palate. For my buck, it's the selection and variety at Union. Plus, there is plenty of parking. Waverly is a short drive (or long walk) with a smaller taproom and selection. In between the two is a good BBQ joint called the Blue Pit if you're hungry. Small step above 'dive' bar, but cool.

Nothing against Nepenthe, just that it wouldn't be my 1st choice. Parking could be a problem, especially on a weekend but do agree that 36th St is unique and that the options at the Wine Source are above average.

If you venture just south of the city 20 minutes, Sapwood Cellars is an awesome brewery.

Diamondback is on the south end of the city, right off I-95. Heavy Seas is 15 minutes away south on I-95.
