I'm going to travel to Baltimore in a few months. What are the must stop breweries and beer bars? If they have food, that is a plus. Thanks for the help. This is a great community.
Oh so many. Great stops could include Max's Taphouse (iconic beer stop) , The Brewers Art, Heavy Seas Taphouse (Heavy Seas) , Of Love & Regret (Stillwater). Thats a good start. Baltimore is a great beer-towne.
Do a search as this question gets asked a lot so there are many good suggestions. If you want to combine your beer with good food I would suggest Alewife and Metropolitan. Both have a nice beer list and a really competent kitchen. Metrobalto.com Alewifebaltimore.com
Have a friend staying at the Baltimore Harbor Hotel for a few days. Any advice on bottle shops or grocery stores for local beers to visit to bring back to the west coast? Thanks for the help!
Hah! Beer at a grocery store. I wish. That concept doesn't exist in The People's Republic of Maryland. Nothing in the inner harbor. Your friends best bet would be to go east past Fell's Point and there are a couple in the Canton neighborhood. Do a search here or on Google for Bo Brooks Lighthouse Liquors
No? It depends on the county....Giant here in Salisbury has all the beer you want from 6am to 12 am each and every day. Selection is mediocre but they got beer......
Came here to say this. I was just in Bodymore last week and spent more money than I'd care to tally at The Wine Source
We really enjoyed mahaffeys when we visited last march, in addition to brewers art, metropolitan, and maxs taproom.
If you venture out into the suburbs, I recommend Victoria's gastropub and sample some Manor Hill brews. Good stuff there, plus the food is amazing at that place (a tad pricey but great food). Owner of Manor Hill also owns Victoria's so they have many MH beers on tap.
A crowd of us were in Baltimore this past weekend for a double birthday drink-a-thon. Friday: Alewife>Heavy Seas>Brewers Art (for a most excellent dinner)>Station 16 Taphouse (or something like that) Saturday (after a most excellent breakfast at the Blue Moon Café): Gordon Biersch>Duda's>Wharf Rat>Cat's Eye>Abbey Burger Bistro (Yum!)>Max's>back to GB for the Villanova game. Max's was unrecognizable, hadn't been in the place in 9 or 10 years. The back bar with Norris serving us was the place to be.
When we get anywhere near Delaware at RT 95, it's a absolute must that we stop at State Line Liquors. They have an extreme selection of bottled and some canned beer, where you can build your own 6pack or case. They also have a growler station with many choices to fill up that 32 or 64oz growler. On most Thursdays and weekends, they have tap socials, where brewers come in and discuss their respective beers.
Any suggestions for a place to have a nice dinner that also has a good bottle or draft list? Specifically near inner harbor. Searching the threads and Places turns up lots of good options, but they all seem to be "bar first\food second".
Seconding the Max's recommendation. Non-booze related, but Chaps Pit Beef is a great lunch spot. Get the Richwich.
Alewife and Of Love and Regret are your best bets for nice dinner at a bar with a good bottle and draft list. Both are definitely more on the bar side of the spectrum. Since I live close to it, Of Love and Regret is usually my go to, the majority of their drafts are from Stillwater since it's his bar. The Brewers Art is a nice restaurant and they make their own beer, but they only serve their own beer and they have a limited list of guest bottles. Woodberry Kitchen is always my number 1 recommendation for a nice dinner, but it's like 10-15 minutes north of the inner harbor. They usually have a pretty decent draft list, but it's usually 6 or 7 local craft beers that you would be able to get at most bars in the city. All of the places usually post their draft lists and dinner menus on their website so you can see which one fits what you're looking for.
