Bamberg & Munich Starkbierfest Tips?

    I agree that Bamberg is a beautiful little town. I've had a great time getting lost in the backstreets there - something I've posted on this forum before, more than once probably. I didn't mean my comment to be disparaging, just that in terms of tourist attractions it certainly isn't on the level of, say, Berlin or Munich. For what it's worth I've said the same thing about one of my all time favorite cities anywhere (Düsseldorf) - i.e., that a tourist who wanted to sightsee might be more interested in Köln, but I always preferred Düsseldorf. I certainly don't put myself out there as an expert on all things Bamberg, though, so if you know of cool sights for the OP to see feel free to add them to the conversation!

    I'm an explorer and love wandering in unfamiliar places. I've done it alone in Dublin and Munich, and with some friends in Berlin and Bamberg -- as well as many other small and large towns in Europe. If it's new to me, it's worth exploring.

    A favorite spot in Bamberg? Watching the river flow by at the Altes Rathaus.

    I have great memories of sitting at Eckerts drinking Ganstaller Zwicklepils doing just that. Doesn't get much better

    Even more good stuff here, thanks guys. I fly out to London tonight (will find some real ale) and then looking forward to the Germany component. I am glad that we planned two days in Bamberg.

    Looks like you have a great trip lined up as well, one week after me. I wanted to try and do an evening at Augustiner in the keller, but they were not doing starkbierfest the night we had available. I thought it looked like an amazing place to experience though, hope you enjoy it!
