Can somebody explain to me where this brewery came from, and how all of a sudden they blew up the trade boards? I see 11 beers on untappd - all of which have very few reviews - yet people are offering an arm and a leg for these bottles?

Just want to see if i'm missing some critical information like the brewer is cory king or some shit.

The whole scenario reminds me of White Rooster's Pyrite - which similarly blew up the trade forums with ISO's a beer / brewery i'd never heard of. Turned out pyrite was fools gold, wondering if this is more of the same.

Has anybody actually traded for these & tried them yet?

    Cheers

From what I've gathered he is a gypsy brewer making borderline chewy stouts. Super thick, sugary, heavily flavored and barrel aged and all sold through a membership to maximize that good rare taste

I have a buddy that pulled the set. He's a member. He shared one bottle with me, the base BA stout. It was good, but not ground breaking. Curious how the variants are.

The brewer brews out of Ellipsis out of Chicago I believe?

This actually came up in the GL Forum Chicago Stout thread. Should provide a little more insight. There are a few helpful responses if you sift through the couple of pages after the initial question.

Barclay's a Chicago-based homebrewer who's had some local notoriety in the last couple years for his barrel-aged imperial stouts- specifically, the Legacy and Heritage series.

About a year and half ago, he entered into a partnership with Ellison Brewing in East Lansing to brew his stout recipes on their system and barrel-age them in their barrelhouse. The DOT series is a result of the membership that he created to put in the funding for that effort up front and it was all released in late January.

That's the backstory and word is getting around. Whether or not it is merited is entirely up to your palate.
