Hey guys, just thought I'd share a little moment I was just lucky to have.

I'm currently living in Portland, and thanks to the recommendation from TheeWalrusHunter, I've been put on the scent of the excellent IPAs from Barley Brown's. Long story short, I swung by Belmont Station today to grab a pint of WFO after noticing that they had it on tap and after ordering, a guy at the bar told the bartender to put it on his tab.

I was pretty taken aback, but it turns out that the guy at the bar was none other than Tyler Brown, the man behind the beers at Barley Browns. It was nice to get the opportunity to express my newfound fandom, and also pretty awesome to get a pint of the outstanding WFO for free!. Anyway, I'm fully on board the Barley Brown's train and assume that most of you Northwesterners are as well. But if not, get on it because they're awesome!

When they tapped Barley Brown's Hop Truck Crossing at the Hood River Fresh Hop fest this year, Tyler was there helping out the volunteers, pouring beer to keep the long line moving. Great brewer and one of the nicest guys in the business.

Boneyard gets all the attention, but they and Barley Browns have always been 1a and 1b for me when it comes to the hoppy stuff. And Barley Browns actually has a wider range.

Yeah, I agree. Little things like that go a long way towards building a customer base. The fact that they make such fantastic beers sure doesn't hurt either.

Have any of you guys been out to the brew pub? Is it, or Baker City for that matter, worth the 5 hour trip from Portland?

Not sure if you're serious, but if you are, man, you're the worst. Just sharing a story about an awesome local brewer and thanking a fellow member for pointing me towards them.

Sorry if I damaged your Millenial self-esteem by not appreciating your story about getting a free beer. My bad.

Well, can't be right? FH is from the place where all the hops are grown. No competition.

Maybe in Oregon. We apparently get Barley Browns in WA, but it's really hard to find on a regular basis.

I think Rob meant that they produce a wider range of beers, not that they have a wider distribution.

^ This. As a hophead, these two breweries are two of the best reasons to live in the NW. Availability is outstanding as well... was at my favorite PDX dive sports bar today, and they had on the RPM and pallet jack, by the pint, half pitcher and pitcher. After an afternoon at Claudia's, the drive back to Eugene can sometimes seem very, very long. :-)

Had my first growler of Barley Browns, Tumble Off Pale. Very nice. I also got another RPM (I was hoping for a HV) here on the WA/ID border.

Apex still had tank slapper, notorious, and venom which really surprised me.
