I heard Barley water is good for preventing kidney stones. (of course beer too..) http://www.top10homeremedies.com/kitchen-ingredients/top-10-health-benefits-of-barley-water.html Can I still use the spent grain for this? I've seen people doing bread with spent grain, wondering if I can use it to make Barley water? I'm not sure if all the goodies have been lost after the mash. thx.
Sounds like another one of those old wives fables. Anyway yes the goodies are probably gone after the mash.
There are almost certainly some sugars (and other stuff) left in your spent grain. You could do another sparge and then boil to concentrate if you like. But, I just clicked your link and it says that you soak "barley" in water which to me suggests that it is not malted at all. And because you are boiling the barley, it is not going to convert. So from a health point of view, spent grains will not equal "barley water". Also from a health point of view, I suspect that there are not too many actual benefits from barley water, but it is not likely to be detrimental to your health.
