I'm not a huge barleywine guy, but you should try Arcadia's Cereal Killer.

I gotta disagree (as I often do on this point) with people in terms of Sucaba. Fresh, it's certainly drinkable, but overly simplistic and sort of two dimensional, as the booze covers up the incredible nuances that aging brings out. This beer is fantastic aged (as is their Double DBA, which is also basically an English Barleywine). I just don't understand the whole 'if you don't have multiple bottles, drink it fresh' argument. If I had managed to score some 2009 Bordeaux back in in 2011, and it wasn't expected to hit its stride for another 10-12 years, why would I drink it now, just because I only had one bottle?

There it is, OP. You'll never get a unanimous answer on something like this. You'll just have to get a 2nd bottle of each and decide for yourself.

JW Lee's. I drink a lot of barleywine and that one is my favorite by far. It's an English barelywine, been around for ages and is frigging excellent

Sebago BB Barleywine. Best bang for the buck.

Thanks for all the insight everyone. I understand that it would make sense to buy at least two and try one now and age one to make a comparison. I didn't purchase two given bottle limits/budget, so that's the reason for the thread. Also, even if I did have two of each of them, I might not get to them in quite awhile anyway due to other factors ( needing someone who would appreciate it to drink with / abstaining from booze for a month before my next race in May / wanting to drink other beers). So, I'm really just trying to figure out which one to crack open next weekend when I have a few friends over. I think I'll go with Sucuba and depending on how much I like it maybe try to pick up another bottle to age. Cheers!
