That sounds kinda good haha. I dunked banana wafers in the banana Stout from the Extreme Beer Box which was pretty good. Did that with a few Stouts actually

Hearing that Hair of the Dog is closing, I don't know if I will ever crack open the Magnum of 2001 Doggie Claws Barleywine I got at KClingers Tavern during one of their barley wine tastings.
    Boy were those great times!
I do prefer the English/British style though as they are much smoother and not as harsh as the American ones.
Although, I will never pass up any Barleywine unless it has weird shit in it.
Also, don't care for the barrel aging process. It distracts too much away from the subtle notes of the beer.
All you taste is wood, charcoal and booze. Not my thing.

Everything that’s not this could try just a little harder as there is room to improve.

Cross posted from the Cellaruary thread

    2013 Stone Old Guardian Barleywine

First pour is clear, second pour bring sediment that settles to the bottom of the glass. Aroma is a mix of caramel and toffee flavors and then both fruity grapefruit zest and earthy pine resin hops. Taste is similar, the malt sweetness is balanced by underlying bitterness. Long finish. Mouthfeel is both a touch oily and also a bit sticky. Overall still quite enjoyable at 9 years of age.

I've been working through a case of that for about a year and a half, down to two 4 packs. Just keeps getting better.

I am also claiming adjacency. Ryewine cross post from the side by side thread.

I'm able to do this side by side thanks to the generosity of @FBarber thank you! With the help of my wife I did this blind.

Ryeway to Heaven from Revolution, description from the can- Bourbon and rye barrels work together in harmony to breathe life into our Ryewine. This unforgettable ale is brewed with over 60% rye, yielding entirely unique malt- and barrel-derived complexities.

V.S.O.R description from can-Owing to two years in premium rye whiskey barrels, this slightly sweeter blend of our Ryewine oozes with malt-derived complexities reminiscent of maple alongside enough oak to build a bedroom set. With a grist composed of over sixty percent rye, Very Special Old Ryeway is deceptively balanced given its massive body.

Both are sweet, oozing caramel and toffee. Both are very rye forward and have a viscous, sticky body. Sample "A" has a slightly lighter color and is sweeter. Sample "B" has deeper layers, adding hints of chocolate and leather. The sweetness is slightly subdued. Both are amazing beers, but I prefer sample "B" and I think that is V.S.O.R.

I was right. The darker color was a bit of a give away I probably should have done this blindfolded but I think I would have guessed correctly regardless. The brewery describing V.S.O.R. as slightly sweeter almost tripped me up since I didn't perceive it that way. Thanks again Frank, looking forward to finishing these up tonight!

Enjoying some Gratitude day goodies. This is the Rye BA version.

I really love Gratitude but for better or worse I've always preferred it just a little more with some age on it. This is very tasty though. The barrel is pretty subtle, but it's there. The old paper-wrapped 750ml bottles always looked amazing but for practicality I'm glad they are moving to the 12oz can serving size - although I'm sure they've bottled up some of the 22oz or 750ml bottles for future release. Cheers!

I'm having a bottle of Gratitude by East End that I received from @Pinz412 in aNBS BIF. Unsure of the vintage, but it had plum/dark purple wax. I'm finding it, uh, suboptimal.

Aside from sours, I don't seek out beer with fruit in it very often. For some reason I've tried quite a few in the last month and been pleasantly surprised. This is another good one. The strawberry is very well incorporated.

Dude, IMNVHO, you can never go wrong with ANY Barleywine from these folks. For me, it's between Jackie O's and Revolution as the best BW brewer in the country.

I never tried a barleywine from either brewery until about 2 months ago. Now that I've had several from each you won't get an argument from me.

Just shared a can of Tree of Life by Tree House last night. Listed as American but it’s quite sweet so I tend to think it’s more English. It was very delicious regardless.

Do you mean intentionally aged in its bottle? Because I can't think of anyone doing small scale aging. Now almost every brewery out there is doing some large scale intentional aging.

I'm gonna have to figure out how to get one of those damned things. I'm sure the secondary on it is f*cking stupid expensive.

Unfortunately it’s incredibly stupid. I was saving / selling a ton to get one. Current secondary for the set is $1,200.
