Old Youth from Highland Park. Although this is a blend of barleywine and stout, it's dominated by barleywine. 14.9% ABV.

    Long-winded description from HP:

This inaugural blend ended up being about 85% Barleywine and 15% Imperial Stout. Composed of a Barleywine recipe aged for 19 months in Elijah Craig barrels, a (different) Barleywine aged for 7 months, and lastly a third barleywine recipe that was a double barrel Barleywine (our last barrel of the Fuerte Manana brew) that was aged for 26 months in a Heaven Hill barrel before being barreled again, this time in a Woodford Reserve barrel. To top it off (for evaporation and transfer loss) we added a big Imperial Stout and aged it for another 16 months.

This is tasting so freaking good right now. Definitely tastes like a barleywine. Loads of toffee, dried fruit, bourbon, and molasses.

Old Foghorn from Anchor. 2020 bottle. Tasting great right now. Hoppy, but nothing close to Bigfoot. Much more of a toffee/citrus mix. Love it.

Getting into a Sierra Nevada 2024 Society brew "Tiki Torches at Twilight", a barleywine that was turned into a rum barrel inspired cocktail with coconut and pineapple. This was part of the Day Drinks theme, nicely crafted and it has aged well.
    Cheers!

Two Threads from Temporal in Vancouver, BC. A Blend of two distinct barleywines. The first was aged a year in Blanton's bourbon barrels then further aged for an additional 3 years in a rye ex-Cognac barrel. The second was aged for 10 months in a Buffalo Trace barrel. 14.45% ABV.

This beer is so damn smooth. Bourbon all day, but really nicely balanced by toffee, vanilla, and dark fruit. I could drink this shit every day.

tonight Im sharing a review from a beer I drank a couple days ago (from notes). This is Barreled Souls in Saco, Maine and their Members Only #8 barleywine. beer is brewed with plums and rainbow peppercorns and registers 13.6% ABV. Bottled in 2023 and has been in my cellar since that winter.

    onto my review:

I split this 1.5L magnum with my brothers at our Christmas gathering. Pouring into an English Pint glass at cellar temp. the beer pours a slightly murky chestnut color with a frothy khaki colored head of 2 cm. This foam fades slowly to a sturdy surface covering that sticks around throughout my sampling.
Aroma is some toffee and some dark fruit with plum and raisin notes with a little bit of brown sugar. Not really much scent from the peppercorn.
I take the first sip and it reveals a medium body with soft rolling carbonation. Texture is smooth and not very sticky for a bigger barleywine. The beer drinks pretty easy on the physical traits.
Flavor is similar to the nose, some toffee mixing with plums again and here I do get a little peppery bite, on the finish , could be peppercorns or the booze. Never really any hop character. There is some warming in my gullet after each swallow. In general this beer is fine as a barleywine, but it isnt my favorite, nor the most impressive one from Barreled Souls IMO. glad I tried, it but wouldnt chase this down for another round.

Fremont Brew 6000 BA English style Barleywine 11.9%. Getting this one in just under the 2025 wire but had to post. This is wonderful. Full bodied and silky. Toffee, caramel, vanilla, and some cocoa notes. Quite sweet per style but not overly cloying. Wood barrel flavor nicely complements the whole package. Not overly boozy for the ABV either. Really enjoying it and will go back for another bottle! Cheers!

Just read you notes after mine and you did a much better job of capturing the essence of this beaut! I'm most impressed at how sweet it is without being cloyingly sticky.
