I came across an old bottle of Old Guardian Barleywine from 2014 at a liquor store. I doubt it was stored properly. Do you think it has gone bad or safe to drink?

Safe, yes. Gone bad, could be but more likely fine. Only one way to find out.

Edit: I would expect some oxidation but at what degree is anybody's guess.

damn, 2014 is 7 years ago? :grimacing: Definitely safe to drink, but probably not ship-shape. May the odds be in your favor

It shouldn't sicken you. Let your nose be your guide. After opening it, take a good whiff. If it smells like what you'd expect an old barleywine to smell like, you're cleared for take-off. Start slow with a cautious sip for sourness, etc.. Prunes, figs, etc. are probably what you're going to get. Enjoy.

Just saw this post, but that beer should be fine.

    I reviewed a 2011 bottle last year:

    Please stop overemphasizing oxidation.
On topic: if gone bad, it will be due to (sun/day)light.

Oxidation is the driving force behind the aging process.

Umm, no. Oxidation, at whatever level, is key
