Barleywine/Stout BIF #2 Sign Up Thread!

The time has come! It's time for the next edition of the Barleywine/Stout BIF - BSBIF #2! Huge thanks to Dan (@DIM) and Ryan (@snaotheus) for co-hosting! It wouldn't be possible without them!

This is the official BSBIF #2 Sign Up Thread. There are lots of guidelines, rules, and advice below. Please read EVERYTHING before signing up.

-Like the regular BIF, this will be in support of the New Beer Weekend thread. Please plan to post new beers to that thread. Check it out if you haven't participated in the thread before - it's a lot of fun!

- You can sign up from now until Saturday, February 1st. That's almost 2 weeks for sign-ups

- After that, we will have a separate thread (Hints and Hauls) that will be used to post hauls and give hints to your target as to who you are!

- Official share date is the weekend of March 8th-9th. We will all crack one (or a few) beers together!

- Pairings will be sent within a couple days of the new thread going live. Please ensure that at least one box of beer reaches your target by the Wednesday prior to the official share weekend (by March 5th), including at least one mystery beer (see below for more details).


Here are the main rules that you MUST read before signing up:

1) You must send 96 ounces (or more) of barleywine/stout to your target. This can be in any form, but mixing it up is nice. Many will send more (sometimes much more), but every member must be OK with receiving the minimum. There is no pressure to send more than the minimum.

2) You must send at least one Mystery Beer: cover up the label of at least one beer (more is fine!) and let your target attempt to guess what it is! A few mystery beers is even better!

3) You must drink at least one of your received beers on the official share weekend (unless you literally cannot).

4) Swag is not required, but is optional and always appreciated.

5) Follow the thread (click "watch thread" at the top). (Also note: if you "miss" a notification of a new post in the thread - say, it's buried among your Likes and Karma notifications - you will not receive another notification until you've revisited the thread. This is how all threads and notifications work on BA. If you log in and do not receive a notification, you've probably missed it - go to the thread!)

6) You must be active in the hints and hauls thread. All participants are expected to post at least one clue per week in the discussion thread (until your target correctly identifies you). Your target will NOT be your sender. If you don't plan on participating in the discussion thread, then don't plan on participating in this BIF, please. Please see the BIF #18 thread and the first Barleywine/Stout BIF for examples! We expect everyone to post pictures of their hauls, along with pictures of their beers when they open them.


Member Requirements:

You must have participated in a previous BIF.

or

You must be active in the New Beer Weekend thread and have a current member vouch for you.

or

You are active in one of the main threads associated with this BIF (Barleywine Appreciation Thread or the Imperial Stout Appreciation Thread) and have a positive trade record.

NOTE: Although not required, it would be great if you were up to date with reviews/ratings on BA so that your sender knows what you HAVEN'T had yet. Otherwise, you can't complain if you get a stout/BW that you have already had. Untappd handles would be useful if BA is not updated, although there is no guarantee that everyone in this BIF uses Untappd.

Respond here with "I'm in" AND:

Send me a DM with the following information:

- Name and shipping information (including phone number)

- Current e-mail address in case any problems arise

- Any dates that you will NOT be home (or shipping restrictions)

- T-shirt size, at a minimum (for those who might send swag)

- Any notes about stouts or barleywines that you particularly like and/or dislike (I hate hoppy barleywines! or I'll choke to death if I drink stouts with coconut!), and any swag you specifically do not want (e.g. "No more glassware; my partner will kill me!")

- Any regular trade partners that might join this BIF, or anyone with whom you have exchanged beer with recently. We would like to make sure everyone is getting NEW beer that they don't have available in their area.


I realize that's a lot of information, but if you're new to the BIF, please read and understand the rules and etiquette. These are similar to the regular BIF.
