Have any breweries ever canned a barrel aged beer? More specifically, a barrel aged imperial stout? I can't think of any who have and I'm wondering what the response would be to something like that.

Sun King BA Timmie. Why would it matter that it's in a can?

I agree. Throw a BA stout in a pounder can and call it a day.

Waxed bottles actually do have a purpose, it stops O2 from getting in if you are aging it.

    Yes!
Last May, I bought a 4-pack of 16 oz. rye whiskey barrel-aged Cavatica Stout at Fort George (Astoria, OR) - aka "Rider in the Rye", stamped "RYE" on the bottom. Really good stuff, hope it returns this year.

I can't wait until a brewery puts wax on a can.

Might have something to do with wanting to hand bottle, not wanting to but the beer through the canning machine? Not sure how barrel extraction works vs. bright tanks.

If so, I'm going to throw the King of Beers in the ring. Aged on beechwood, or so they claim. In that case, I think we have all tried a wood-aged beer in a can.

Exactly. This has always let me to believe that brewers don't trust caps over time. Cans aren't going to leak over time.

Tru that, I just like bottles and wax, or a cork and a cage.

Why do you say that? I have cans of soda that have leaked out the bottom ring. Not sure why but the cans seem to get micro cracks in them and slow leak. Never froze, no crazy temp swings. I did not know they were leaking till I pulled one off a shelf to show someone and it was all sticky on the shelf. Ruined a box next to it as well.

Never had a beer can leak like this but I also have not had one on a shelf for 15+ years.

    Enjoy

Probably "can", just hasn't happened yet!

That's a really interesting post and with the new canning technology, why not??!!!!!?
