If I were to buy beer specifically for aging it would be in bottles because cans won't fit in my wine rack.

I don't think it's ambiguous, but that it is the same as no preference.

There are several reasons to believe that the metallic taste does not come from the can itself. One if the reasons is that plastic lining which prevents the beer from contacting the metal.

As far as tasting better. Agree to disagree. They’ve done blind testing on this. Beer from a can vs. bottle is indistinguishable when served blind. It’s all perception.

Less BPA? To each their own. What you put into your body is a very personal decision. Personally, I’m not as concerned about the minuscule amounts of a chemical that could possible be harmful as I am the 12 oz. of a chemical that is certainly harmful.
When beer drinkers are worried about BPA, non-organic ingredients, etc. it always reminds of of a guy I used to know. He smoked 2 packs a day, but refused to smoke menthols because he had heard “the menthol can crystallize in your lungs and cause health problems.”

To get an honest result in this poll, you really have to treat the last two options as one and the same. As a brewer, do you have an opinion on which format is better for the beer? If cost restrictions allow only one or the other, I think you should probably go with whatever you think is best for the beer.

Cool link. I've always found that Bass Ale tastes more of pennies than of anything else, and I've only ever drank it out of a bottle.

This was my reasoning for voting bottles as well (though thinking more of sizes larger than 12oz). For whatever reason none of my beer friends like stouts, and I'm not usually interested in 22oz of 10+% beer in a night.

No, it's not the same as no preference, in fact, it might be the opposite of no preference. Responding "Whatever [you think] is best is for the beer" inherently means one prefers something [i.e. what is best for the beer], but doesn't say the preference, which makes it ambiguous.

I went cans followed by what’s best for the quality of the beer.

Straight to Ale did their Unobtanium in cans this past year and it was super nice having it in 12 oz format. So many big beers these days in 22 oz and larger. Also nice since it came in at a much better price point.

Working in the pharmaceutical business, I know that there is extractable and leachable testing that is done for vialed vaccines to see if over extended period of time whether the glass, labels, rubber stoppers and vial caps have any particles etc. that find themselves into the vaccine solution. Many of the testing is done at 24 and 36 mo. and sometimes things find there way into the solution from the vialing materials. I would love to see similar testing done for BA beers in a can to see if the materials find their way into the beer (for health reasons and/or taste impacts). Any brewers willing to dish out $150K-$300K for the long term cellar aged testing?

Have you had one of the 2016 BA Fidys lately? I just had one a couple of weeks ago and I thought it had fallen off quite a bit. Not as robust and in your face as I recall them being a year ago. Perhaps I've just been drinking too many other good ones like BCBS, KBS, Central Waters, and Abyss. Still have five left, so I'm going to drink through them in the next month or two.

I have no issues with cans, doubt it has anything to do with how BA Fidy has aged.

While I certainly agree with you that it’s an ambiguous response, I think in the context of the poll it should be viewed as the same answer as “no preference.” Personally, I didn’t read it as “whatever [you think] is best for the beer...”, I read it as “whatever [the brewer thinks] is best for the beer...” which seems to align closely with “no preference.” I, however, could very well be misinterpreting the OPs intent.

We received a very limited amount of it here. I was able to get one can, which I dutifully saved for a share. We sampled it in late July. From my notes, it was very smooth with mo harsh edge at all. My only knock was that it was a little sour and oaky on the finish. I thought it could have used a little more cellar time. I didn't try it fresh, so I don't have any basis for a comparison.

It's hitting nationwide distribution after the release on the 11th, and they're allowing each ticketholder to buy up to 10 cases, plus two cases of the Coffee variant. Sure sounds like production is up. You should be able to find it mid to late November. Coffee variant is brewery only.

I've heard the opposite in the past from other brewers (I don't remember who it was). It's obvious that you're diligent and sharp, so I'm not doubting your perspective. I don't know if the situation changed drastically in a few years, or if it's just difficult to make a blanket statement.

I chose bottle. Could that I'm used to bottles and it just feels right. Will BPA leach by keeping a beer in can for many years?

I collect some soda cans and have had a few of them leak out the bottom from what I can tell is the soda eating away the can. Will a barrel aged beer do this?

I also feel if I'm putting out $15 a serving a bottle feels more worth the $

    Enjoy
