Would you rather buy barrel aged beers in cans or bottles?

I'd hope the money saved on using the cheap canning would pass down to the consumer too. Not keep the same oz per oz as the bottled.

Cans will absolutely be superior in keeping the harmful UV rays out of the beer. No light will be able to pass through.

There appears to be an ongoing debate about oxygen pickup during canning vs. bottling. However, I am concerned that people are using data on differently sized systems. There is an abundance of small canning or mobile canning operations these days, but very few "mobile bottling" operations. Its important to distinguish oxygen pickup during packaging vs. oxygen penetration after packaging i.e. through the cap or lid.

So assuming no difference in oxygen pickup during packaging and assuming both containers are adequately sealed, what about effects of that difference created by penetration through the cap? Seems as though it would have an impact on how the beer ages over time when cellared.

Really guys? This is a thread 5 pages deep?!?

As a homebrewer who has tried many excellent BA stouts, poured ever-so-carefully from a bottle, I would love to say bottles are better.

Then... I tried BA Ten Fidy poured from a stovepipe can.

The debate is over. It's not a matter of bottle vs. can.

In fact, there is no debate at all. Wrap your little "hat-hangers" around that.
