Barrel-Aged beers to recommend...

Dogfather's probably the best that's consistently available.

 

And to think, I walked past it at Spec's so many times - Widmer Brothers had me spooked...I didn't think such a thing as a bad barrel aged beer was possible till them

 

A year or so ago Widmer released a brown ale with dates aged in rum barrels. It was fantastic. Otherwise, yeah most of their releases are very whatever.

 

There was one that tasted like straight Robitussin and it was a Brown Ale in Rum Barrels IIRC - I was spooked from then on out if it didn't say Founder's/Saint Arnold/Karbach on the bottle lol

 

I have a bottle of the 2012 Rahr BBAWW that I would trade $4$ to your friend. I'm in Austin so tell him If he is ever in the area to contact me.

 

BA Dogfather is crap. It tastes well... not good.

There is no easily available good BBA beers on the shelf in Texas. Rye on Rye is the closest.

Brrrbon is not good either. The 2011 was decent, but steer clear of the 2012.

I bet we get Full Sail BBA Imperial Stout soon. Based on Top Sail, this could be a decent beer.
