I am all for making the ABV of any beer higher by barrel aging it.

Then you never sampled the abomination that was Girardin Gueuze aged in Laphroig. It wasn't an official Girardin release.

I love BBA'ed brews as long as the Bourbon is subtle. Some are excellent - anything from Founders, BCBS - Oskar Blues also does it well. I have had some that I'll never seek again though. Those shall remain nameless ......

At least it would end up with some flavor.

Why not? Might get the ABV up to 5%

The closest I get to hard liquor is mead (12.5-16%), so having BBA beers is definitely a good intro to those kinds of flavors. I've never even tasted straight bourbon.
