    Hi Guys,

Found a few BA narwhal bottles at my local go-to and bought one ($24) . I know that is probably over what many of you would pay... but beer in midtown NYC is pretty expensive.

Considering going back to pick-up a second bottle to save for a year or two. Thoughts?

I have not opened the one I bought but I heard this a an awesome beer that will really develop with age.

    Thanks!

I bought one, thought it was delicious, and bought another for cellaring. It was worth it for me, but my shop sold it for 18

    If you like why not?

If spending $24 causes you a measure of concern, buying beer in general is probably not a good idea.

Ouch, even though i work in NYC, living in jersey allows me to forego the blatant price gouging. Picked mine up for $17.50.

Yes, the high cost of everything in NYC is "price gouging". There is no reason to pay more for anything you can get for half the price in wonderful Edison, NJ.

I think its an outstanding BA imp stout that is easily on par with most of the BA imp stouts frequently discussed on this site. So yes buy another, or perhaps buy a few more.

I actually liked it more than a fresh BCBS :flushed: Paid $20 in Iowa.

How is that still on a shelf anywhere? It came and went so fast in CO months ago, I never got a chance to see it. Barrel aged Big Foot on the other hand is currently on the shelf.

Does anyone have experience cellaring this? Any verts done? Not sure how long the BA Narwhal has been around but I'd love to hear what a year or two does to this as I too have a bottle at home. In my experience a year has never really hurt a BA imperial stout but not sure about longer.

Yeah I was pretty surprised to see ~5 hidden on the top shelf. I'll be buying another tomorrow.

I just hope they get some KBS and no one notices it so I can buy a 4 pack.

I have to take a counterpoint here - didn't really care for the BA Narwhal. I prefer BA Insidious for a much better value than $24 for a bomber (or was it 750ml?). I bought one, and received another as a gift, and I still haven't opened the second one.

Bottom Line: YMMV. Open up the one you have to see if it's worth getting another

2014 was the first year it was bottled. It did win a silver medal at the 2013 GABF in the barrel aged beer category, before it was bottled... so there's no way to really gauge cellaring potential yet. At 12.9% though, I'd say it can hold up for 4-5 years easily, maybe more... as long as the cork doesn't dry out. 1 year would probably cut down on some of the booziness.

    I actually had one tonight.

I think it could use some time, but it was superb fresh! if you can grab two.

A lot of complex flavors fresh. Nice vanilla, and a lot of barrel flavors. not a lot of heat, but some. world class fresh. I'm gonna let it sit for a year or so i think...
