    BA's,
To celebrate my brother's acceptance in to the Ivy League, I'm going to do a Barrel Aged Night on Friday for us 2. Got the following and wondering your thoughts on which three to five we should enjoyably tank in celebration:

    Abyss 2012
    Jester King Funk Metal
    Jester King El Cedro
    Jester King RU-55
    Karbach Bourbon Barrel Aged Hellfighter
Lefthand Barrel Aged Wake Up Dead
Moa Imperial Stout Aged in Pinot Noir Barrels (12oz)
North Coast Barrel Aged Old Rasputin
Rahr & Sons Bourbon Barrel Aged Winter Warmer

    Thanks!

    I don't think El Cedro is barrel-aged.

From that list, Abyss and Raspy would be my top picks. I haven't tried BBA Hellfighter or RU-55, so I can't comment on those.

You're right! El Cedro aged on Spanish Cedar spirals.

Does he drink craft beer? What styles, if any, does he like?

Good question. He's a huge RIS and American Imperial Stout guy.

Save the Abyss... it ain't ready for primetime yet.

Do the Hellfighter, Winter Warmer, & MoA (2 bottles, I'd say. It's small). I'd say keep the MoA for last as its the most complex of the bunch. It's not very sweet and is more acrid and tart.

Maybe open an El Cedro afterwards just as a palate reset.

I wouldn't mix sours in there just to make things consistent.

I find the MOA very inconsistent. I've had it range to no barrel at all to huge pinot flavors everywhere. The wake up dead, while barrel aged, I don't think they specify what barrel. I get no bourbon what-so-ever so I can only assume it's virgin oak barrels (maybe fired inside but never having seen liquor before.

I'd go for an all bourbon night with the Hellfighter, Raspy, and Rahr... I'd vote that way too but there's only like 5 choices up top

Good point Lutter, the sweet Bourbon won't need sour mixins.

Yeah, Cablejelly, pressed Enter too soon and it posted. I'd have to assume Wake Up Dead's oak barrel too. While a lot don't favor it, I find it mighty fine!

After seeing the entire list, hold Abyss and BA Raspy, unless Raspy is 1 yo or more. Go with Hellfighter for sure, MOA and Rahr.

None. Just shotgun beers all night. He's not gonna be able to do that as an Ivy league student.

LOL... shotgunning Ten FIDY would be a very bad idea.

Hahah man, my wife tossed the bottles (so no picture) but it ended up going off course a tad:

    Small Batch 2
    Small Batch 5
    BA WUD
    Pumpkinator '12
    Rahr BBA Winter Warmer.

Outside the Pumpkinator, which has developed so well, my favorite was Rahr BBA. The small batch 5 was delish. My brother and my uncle-in-law loved the BA WUD the most...including more than the three each DR13 on tap we enjoyed at the bar before starting this up.
