Barrel Aged Old Numbskull

    i happened upon a 2012 bottle of this while on a road trip this past weekend. i was curious whether or not this was common or if it was a rare find. it was in a pretty popular beer town and in a pretty popular beer store so i thought it must be common but i didnt think the barrel aged Alesmith stuff was really shelf stuff.

    Other than BASS, the Alesmith BA varieties seem to sit on the shelf (sometimes for a long time) because of their very high price.

    strange, i didnt even think they were distributed. im not even sure what i payed for it since i bought so much beer. foreign state beer hunting is friggin awesome!

    If you find a beer that is 18+ months old sitting on a shelf 98.9% of the time it doesn't have great value as it has been sitting on a shelf for 18+ months. That doesn't mean the beer isn't great just that it won't necessarily trade well.

    i know this but i was wondering if this was the 1%. i have found bcbcs bombers in stores months after release so you just never know. just recently cherry rye popped up around here so you never know. no matter what im pretty happy with it but i didnt see it at other stores i was at so i was a little curious.

    Hey I agree and I actually think all of us at some point have walked into a beer/liquor store and hoped to stumble upon a gem. I know I have.

    That's good to hear. I guess the days of all the BA Alesmith lineup only being brewery released are over. I'll miss BPT and those hour in a half long drives that gave me an excuse to swing by Societe...

    Are you sure you guys aren't seeing regular Old Numbskull? I could be wrong, but I thought that both BA Numbskull versions were BPT only followed by a short run in the tasting room.

    Good to know! I really liked the Rye Barrel treatment of this but I thought I was out of luck. Looks like I get to go out and hunt for more!

    We have been getting the barrel-aged non-Speedway beers in Wisconsin. Old Numbskull (BA and Rye Barrel both) and Grand Cru, I forget what the third one is that I've seen on the shelves here. Limiting factor is that it's $30+ for one bottle. BA Grand Cru is still on the shelves here.

    Thanks, the name of the third BA AleSmith beer was escaping me. I blame the bottle of Double Sunshine that I just took to the dome.
