Had one about 2 years ago? Soooo Hot. I guess I just stayed away since then. Cheers!

    That's the worst part, it isn't even 750ml for $20. It's only 500!

Regular Rasputin=one of the great bargains in better beer; BA Rasputin=a bafflingly massive markup. Aside from Old Stock I can't think of another beer with such a steep price difference between the regular and barrel aged versions. Are any even close?

I had it on tap a couple weeks ago. Pretty good, but the barrel character was a little subdued for my liking. At $20/500mL bottle, it's just not worth the money for me.

For the XVI I would say lay it down in the cellar for at least a year or two and hope it develops. It's good right now, but not that much noticeably better than standard Old Rasputin and nowhere near worth the price point.

Having one right now. This is undoubtedly a great beer (it's Old Rasputin aged in bourbon barrels, how could it not be?), but I do agree with the idea that a year of aging will serve it well by bringing down some of the heat.

I saw one of these for $37 today. I lolled.

Randomly came across a XIV a month ago. A little spendy, yes, but most stuff is these days.

I don't think I'd pay $20 for a bomber but I had some on tap a month or two ago and its was amazing.

I picked up a bottle of XVI at Norm's in Vienna. It comes around, it just goes quickly.

Threads like this make me happy I found this place!

I love me some Rasputin and was debating if I was going to by the BA version.

Reading all the above I will not be buying.

    Thanks all!!

Seeing as how many in this thread seem to think BA Old Raspy overpriced, has anyone blended the non-BA with bourbon/whiskey/brandy? Not that it would be the same, but it might be a better bang for your buck.

To me, BA Raspy is very similar to Bell's Black Note...obviously, they are different and Black Note is superior, but similar in style and character. $20 is steep, but worth it sometimes. It's a great BA stout for sure. Enjoy!

I just had a bottle of the XV, and I enjoyed it very much. It was nice to tick a top 250 off the list. That being said, I can't rationalize spending another $23 on the XVI, which I just saw on shelves today in NY.

I picked up a bottle of XVI this year as I missed last years. I have not had the chance of trying any and this would be my first.

Would it be wise to drink soon or give it 6-8 months?

Opened one last night in zero degree DC, didn't notice any heat at all. I thought it had a ton of cola notes, almost like a 50::50 bourbon+coke (or whatever point you can no longer taste the sugar). Not quite as decadent as ba boris, probably my favorite beer, but this one did have a nice aged hop content and was bitter through and through, unlike some ba stouts.

I'm glad I have another one to to save for perhaps the first cold night of next winter (I'll probably ear mark a reg Rasputin purchased now to "side by side" then as well).

I figure I'll buy a bottle of the XVI if I come across it. But there's still a good amount of the XV sitting on shelves in my area, so I'm not sure if those same stores will decide to pick up the XVI to sell anytime soon.
