I was at the CCB in August and picked up Good Gourd. Solid beer. I'm curious what their barrel aged variety is like in comparison to the base beer.

I enjoyed the regular Good Gourd as well. Mainly because the spice was way subdued relative to the likes of Pumking and others. It focused on the pumpkin flavor, rather than drinking liquid nutmeg. The rum version sounds awesome.

Oaked pumking was not bottled. Draft only last year.

Also, it wasn't barrel aged. I believe they just use oak staves in the fermenters. Same goes for oaked back burner and oaked unearthly. There was a barrel aged back burner but that was draft only.

From the Canadian side of the PNW , Phillip's Brewing released 'Crooked'er Tooth' @ 7.3% a barrel aged Pumpkin Ale that's big on booze flavor , not so smooth , yet

Because one CAN barrel age a beer, does not mean that one SHOULD barrel every single beer. I place Pumpkin styles in that category. Stick to Southern Tier PumKing or Dogfish Head Punk'n to a lesser extent.

Definitely try some of the Barrel Aged Pumpkins then, I generally notice the spices getting numbed at least slightly, I generally don't like that aspect of it, but I love the additional flavors oak brings. I'd have to say The Greater Pumpkin tasted like vanilla Pumpkin pie to me:slight_smile:

I enjoyed the Frog's Hollow barrel aged as well. Agree: vanilla pumpkin pie. Not liquid nutmeg. Was yum.

I had this beer in seattle at a pumpkin fest recently.. they randalled it through pumpkin seeds and vanilla bean.. so amazing! then i had a bottle of it the next night and realize the randalling changed it very minimally.. so it was the beer itself.
