Peat Whiskey BA Black Hole tastes smoked, but it's just the scotch barrel

It just came out a couple weeks ago. It's here in the MA area, not sure how far it will hit distribution-wise, I'm guessing it's fairly limited (only has 3 reviews and I'm one of them). It's pretty good, I don't even like smoked beers but this is the best I've had easily.

The tiny O'Fallon brewery near St. Louis used to make a barrel-aged (and just slightly stronger, if I remember) version of their smoked porter which was really, really tasty. I picked one up after they'd sat on the shelves forever around here (cos nearly 10 bucks for a 6-7 percent beer seemed a bit much) but after I had, I wished I'd nabbed the rest of em. The base smoked porter is good, this was certainly a level above. Bring it back!

I'm not sure if it ever went to retail, but Elevation Beer Co made one for the Pints for Prostates Rare Beer Tasting called Prostrator.

That one wasn't barrel-aged, was it?

I thought it was, but I don't know for sure. I only had a tiny bit of it on a palate that wasn't ideal, but it reminded me a bit of Eiche, but with a heavier smoke character.

That one's not aged in barrels, either; the oak is just used to smoke the malt.

I love the Eiche. A friend was fortunate to get a bottle of the Prostator, which he says he'll share with me next time he's in Charlotte.

Bar fly was pretty mind blowing for a smoked beer

BA George was pretty smokey. Probably numerous BA de molen beers. HF fear and trembling series. The first inception series beer from Nebraska was a smoked porter and really good too. I didnt think bar fly was as smokey as I had hoped.

I didn't taste any smoke but Bo & Luke is amazing. Maybe one of the best barrel aged beers I've had.

I've seen the rye version at a number of Southern California liquor stores and Whole Foods locations. I'm pretty sure the bourbon version was only available to Reserve Society members, or maybe it showed up briefly on the shelves at Bruery Provisions.

Stone smoked porter in lowland scotch whiskey barrels. It was growler only at their stores. It was delicious. I'm not a fan of the base beer but the BA version was fantastic. Was suprised to find out it was 9.2%, couldn't tell at all. If you are a so cal local search it out. Or if you do growler trades.

Thanks for the input so far everyone. I've been really busy with school work this week but I might take one or two of you up on potential trades. I'm especially interested in trying one of the Bruery Smoking Wood variations and, while I'm guessing it's extremely unlikely, Bar Fly.

I'm curious about the BA Otto though the person I'd share it with would likely hate the base beer which makes me question the value in trading for one, lol.

A lot of the smaller local stuff looks/sounds good, though it seems most of it is pretty much impossible to get.

Either way there's a lot more of these beers out there than I realized. Good stuff.
Yes, this picture is awesome. And yes, we're all very jealous right now...
