So I just managed to land a bottle of Summer Wine Brewing Kopikat. The barrel-aged versions are still being produced, but the non-barrel-aged has been retired for a while and is now crazy hard to get. Thought that was funny, since it's usually the other way around.

Any other known examples of this? Did you try both non-barrel-aged and barrel-aged versions and if so: which was better?

Technically older Night Stalker should be pretty close, after the dry-hopping has faded somewhat. Big John is overkill on the cocoa nibs, methinks.

No barrel aged example comes to mind. However I've found and bought lots of Imperial Biscotti Break, but have never come across the regular Biscotti. The former has around eight times as many ratings as the latter.

I believe both were made with the intention of being one-offs, but after the huge success of the initial IBB release they decided to make it a regular. No confirmation, but thats what I have heard. Ive also heard rumors that Lil B is the base beer for IBB.

    both so good.

probably to a much lesser degree than the beers OP and others mentioned, but jack's abby framinghammer baltic porter. the BA version is bottled and they made a pretty good amount of it (plus it's priced low and is fucking delicious). the non-BA version is tap-only. i had it only once. was very good.

It seems obvious to me that for any beer that is brewed once (or once a year) that the fresh stuff will come out first, and then the aged stuff will come out later.

That's a pricing issue, not a production one.

    Agreed.

Revolution just released a BA stout, Deth's Tar, but I think the normal version, Alderaan, was only available on tap at the brewery.

I actually drain poured NightStalker. I have no idea how that becomes BCS.

Now a BA Big John would make me the happiest man in the world!:grinning:

Jack's Abby BA Framinghammer was released in bottles to distro, but the regular Framminghammer was draft only, primarily at the brewery.
