Good enough just doesn't cut it anymore in this age of BA, corked, waxed, and dipped collectibles...err...drinks...

This won't be a white whale, sheesh.

Also, I haven't really enjoyed Ballast Point's BA stuff. Granted, I've only had two, but I think their spirits have this harsh acetone flavor that I really dislike. BBA Sea Monster was ghastly, I couldn't finish it. I'd be significantly more excited about this if they used someone else's barrels (or cleaned them up). If one falls into my lap then I'll gladly drink it, but I won't be seeking this out.

i really liked the (i think it was rum) barrel aged barleywine i had one time (they told me it was bourbon barrel aged at the bar, but they also followed that up with "as are most barleywines," so...).

not a huge victory at sea fan, but i bet rum barrel aging it could be a very good thing. i'd pick up a bottle if i came across it.

Good point. Failed to double check that important detail. Wouldn't be surprised if they do, but I don't think they've ever released any BA beers in bottles.

"A super-limited batch of barrel-aged Victory at Sea (we’ve tasted it and it’s killer), that we will release at select events throughout the fall and winter."
    Sounds like draft/cask only.

I had BBA Sea Monster that was aged for 3 years and it was pretty good. Much more balanced than what people were describing when fresh.

Could also have been a better batch. I wouldn't be shocked if there was massive batch variation on these.

    Agreed

OP - Victory at Sea is too sweet as is - overdone with Vanilla IMO

To each their own though - go chase that whale! Good luck!

    Cheers

I really do need to make it back down to Ballast Point.

    Cheers!

reading this over, i see that i didn't make it clear that i was talking about a ballast point rum barrel aged barleywine. my point was that ballast point are pretty good with barrels, so i bet BA VaS is good. (plus the beer is too hot, so barrel aging in general is good)

The ba version is actual not as good as the base beer imo but still a good beer
