That manhattan was fantastic. Big fan of eye wine once it warmed up too. Twisted Trace went amazingly with the brat.

Stopped in last night. TT was amazing, as was the Manhattan, Eye Wine was pretty solid but not my favorite, VERY strong honey tones.

Can someone remind me of what today's release is? Because apparently I need EVEN MORE of a reason to go there than the 3 top notch beers that are already flowing

I had Twisted Trace last year and there is one element this year, that I do not remember from last year. I don't see anybody else mentioning it, but is anybody else picking up smoke in the flavor? Not in the nose, but in the taste. Buffalo Trace doesn't use a peated malt and Twisted Reality doesn't seem to have any smoked malt (from what I remember). So I am confused where this smoke is coming from, because at least for me it seems fairly pronounced and not just something hinted at.

Could it be from the char in the barrel? The barrel is the main difference between this and last year's, right?

It didn't really taste like that, but I did consider it. But the thing that makes me think that it wasn't, is that a barrel is charred first and then the whiskey is added after. That is why most bourbon barrel aged beers pull the taste of the aged spirit that has melded all the flavors together already, instead of tasting them individually (or at least that has been my experience from what I have had).

But I also didn't hear about what the difference was between last year's barrels and this year's barrels. Did they just use charred barrels that they received from Buffalo Trace, that actually never held any whiskey?

Also, I know that BT has many brands and an experimental series, etc. So maybe they came from BT, but actually had a different product aged in them. I know that the Pappy's are coveted and always identified, but given that BT is the parent company of many lines, maybe they do send out some of the other barrels that may have held a peated malt product and they would not be lying to still call them BT barrels.

TT is still on, I am still (again) wearing a green shirt and sitting alone by the wall between the end of the bar and the front (Washington) window.
