Barrel shortage coming soon?

    It is my understanding as a bourbon drinker in addition to being a BA that bourbon is undergoing a huge surge in popularity thus is why the shortage in barrels. But, bourbon IS whiskey but not all whiskies are bourbon. According to a federal law which states that Bourbon is the official spirit of the USA, you cannot reuse barrels and call it a bourbon, but a lot of scotches,Irish whiskies, and even some rums; use used bourbon barrels to finish the aging process. Bourbon on the other hand "officially" has to be 51% corn in the mashbill, and aged in charred NEW american white oak barrels. But other whiskies do not have these regulations. This does not really have all that much impact on barrel aged beers, that is unless you are calling them bourbon barrel aged. But, it is true there is a shortage of bourbon barrels, especially Buffalo Trace. Which is making the most in demand bourbon's and rye's at the moment.
