I first got a basic idea of who was interested then branched that into full share, half share and partial share based on level of interest including estimates of final cost.
I then made a bunch of polls that started off really basic. First was stout vs Barleywine, then keep it simple vs go nuts with additions.
The polls continued to get more and more specific until we reached a decent consensus. We are all using a chat app that makes it easy to create polls.
One of final polls was who wanted to be on zoom video consultation with brewers. We had 6 of us on with the two brewers and discussed our basic plan. They helped us fine tune based on their past experience with ingredients and the base beer.
We are currently figuring out the specific origin of one of our ingredients. The process is lots of fun and also gives us something to do during the current situation.

Our group has been together for a while ( we are one of the {best by far} BIF groups on BA), so that probably helped with decision making and coming together quickly.

Holy smokes the new Weller BA Big Bang is phenomenal. I’d put this up with the best barleywines I’ve ever had. Bonus points for being delivered to my house the same day as the release.

I've been trying to use restraint ordering extra bottles, but I'm still at 42. This membership is going to be dangerous but I'm in for the long term.

this was the danger of membership I was warned about. It is so easy to buy more, and there is a discount!!
Im not at 42, but still havent done anything for the most recent email sent out. Gonna be a hell of a haul when I go pick em up either way!

Same here. I’m not ready for the amount of awesome stout that’s going to be added to my cellar next time I get to Maine.

I have really enjoyed the beers I've tried from BS and at a great price point as well. My only critique being the level of carbonation on some of their stouts / barleywines. Anyone with recent experiences on their beers to confirm if that inconsistency is still there or has improved? Was looking at grabbing some beers from their convenient in person pickup option being I'm local.

I haven’t had any of their new stouts within the last 6 months, but I do agree with you overall. I’ve had more carb inconsistency and gushers from Barreled Souls than any other brewery.

I’ll be dammed if the beers aren’t tasty as hell though.

Definitely agree in that i've had a few over carbonated beers. Definitely not what I'd consider a common occurrence but maybe like 5-10% of beers I've had, and I've had A LOT of their beers.

Overall they are still small and learning, but they are getting pretty consistent in putting out great to phenomenal beers. Really excited for these upcoming banana beer and 10 cents!

As a data point, I had no gushers out of all the barrel-aged beers available to the 2019 bottle society. Everything was excellent - though some of the more experimental stuff is certainly divisive.

My current hurdle is figuring out when to open this mag of almond/vanilla/coffee Members Only #4 stout during social distancing! It makes me wish they'd allow members to have three 500ml bottles of the annual exclusive beer rather than one 1.5L mag.

I just did some serious damage to my wallet with the Stay Puft email. My restraint isn't as strong as I was hoping.

I went “cheap” and only got 3 bottles of the regular (maxed the rest). Can’t wait to see the wife’s face when I come back with a pallet of barreled souls after I pick up my orders.

For BS members, does anyone know what happened to the Double Stuffed Stay Puft? Is that coming later in the year?

The strawberry one? That’s what I was gonna ask about. But, like the rest of you, I had ZERO impulse control as soon as I got that email last night. Maxed out even though I knew I was getting one of each. I’m gonna need a uhaul

I believe the strawberry peanut butter stay puft listed on the website for BS members is the same as the PB&J. I was referring to #5 on the site:

Double Stuffed Stay Puft (An IMPERIAL version of our already beloved imperial stout with more marshmallow-we anticipate an approximate 17% abv!)

Edit: Looks like they may have replaced it with Hot Cocoa since that wasn't listed originally.

You Society member jerks really need to start your own thread. You’re killing me here! Or maybe I’m just salty that you bought up all the Coconut Phones I was waiting for tomorrow.
