GOLDEN, CO— Under the direction of new head brewer Kim Collins, Barrels & Bottles released its first three flagship beers this week. The new line includes an all Chinook-hopped pale ale called Piney the First, the sessionable Lil’ IPA, and Hot Lips, a sour mash blonde ale. Here are complete descriptions by Kim Collins:

Piney the First an all Chinook Pale Ale, 5% ABV, 48 IBUs

Piney is a crisp pale ale for year-round enjoyment, smelling of pine trees and citrus. All the hopsused in Piney (kettle, whirlpool, and dry hops) are whole cone from Voss Farms. Piney is named The First because she was my first recipe and first brew for Barrels & Bottles.

Lil' IPA a sessionable IPA for summertime, 5.2% ABV, 55 IBUs

Brewed using whole cone hops from Voss Farms and Hop Union (Centennial, Chinook, andCascade), and dry hopped with Cascade hops, Lil' IPA is named as such because our IPA and IIPAare on the way... She is little, but not insignificant.

Hot Lips is a sour mashed blonde ale, 3.7% ABV, 30 IBUs

This beer is brewed using a pure Lactobacillus strain in the mash kettle, which produces a sharp tart note that does not linger, and all Mystery X hops, which create a lemon flavor, from Voss Farms. All Voss Farms hops were hand picked by Barrels & Bottles owners Zach and Abby George in the fall of 2013. The name is Hot Lips because even today, most blonde nurses in the military are called “Hot Lips” after the show M*A*S*H*. We thought the name fitting because Zach and Abby have military backgrounds.

Beginning on Friday, July 4 Barrels & Bottles will tap fresh firkins. The first will be Epic Brewing’sEscape to Colorado IPA with toasted French oak and simcoe leaf hops.

In mid July, Barrels & Bottles will release three more beers. Stay tuned for more information.

Sure hope this improves their line-up! Their old one needed some improving for sure.
