I know its not an IPA but bear with me -
Had some Cairn today - peat smoked scotch ale, haven't had it in about a year. Astoria Bier and Cheese/Ditmars
I am ok with scotch ales like Dirty Bastard and Old Chubb but sometimes they are too syrupy, sweet and boozy for me.
This one is really nice and mellow, not cloying at all, the peat really cuts out anything approaching sweetness. Similar to how the peat acts in the Lights Out stout.
Definitely recommend it - good for winter time for sure.

I agree. Had the Cairn a week or 2 ago at the tap room and it was definitely the stand out, even smokier then their rauchbier which was kinda weird...

Also...Money and Suburb should be at most LI distributors. It's at Monarch in LB.

Yeah I usually stay away from anything smoked after my first time having an American smoked Porter but I think that brewery used liquid smoke. This smoked peat is really nice. I'll have to give the rauchbier style a try sometime. I really enjoy the more obscure Barrier beers, hoping Oblong the strong dark rye beer returns.

I bought one from Good Beer on Friday afternoon. Wasn't as danky or grassy as on tap but it was still top notch. Side note: I hate those GB paper bags. I had a 32oz growler and the 16.9oz bottle in one of their bags, pretty light, and the fucker ripped without any notice and both bottles bounced off the sidewalk. I thought I was going to have a heart attack. Thankfully, neither broke and I wasn't drinking them for 6 or 7 hours, so they were fine. whew!

Yea I'm definitely a fan of their obscure beers (obscure in a sense that they arent the mainstream styles i.e IPAs. Stouts). Their rauchbier is definitetly tasty. I highly recommend marinating some steak in it for a while and grilling it up on a hot summer day.

I wish Vermillion would come back. That was an outstanding dark sour.

Just grabbed a bottle each of Money and Suburbs at Eataly. They also have Red Button, Imposter and Smackdab right now (though I didn't feel like dropping a small fortune, I agree these bottles are pretty $$$).

This current bottling of Money is very good, great smell, so tasty, better than last bottling. There was a batch on draft 4 or 5 months ago that was divine, wish they could recapture that. If this was sold in a can on Centre Street people would be going beserk for this.

Ninja edit - This bottle is very, very, very good!

Would that also mean it would cost 50% less?

How would you describe this version with the motueka hops? I had the original version and loved it but don't remember what hops were used.

 ! if you factor in the time cost of acquiring said beers, it is Money in a runaway ( this coming from me who is a OH homer).

For 8 beers, agreed, but for a case, the cost differential and ease of fitting in the fridge outweigh the time cost for me.

Unpopular opinion :: money is better on draft. Had a bottle at prolet and it wasn't nearly as aromatic as usual or dank don't know if it was just this batch.

I don't think that's an unpopular opinion at all. A few posters in this thread, myself included, agree. It's still good, just not at that level we're all accustomed to.
