Howdy everyone. A friend is staying with his parents in Fairfax taking care of mom, and I figured I might find out if there are any good beer spots near him. Obviously Richmond is 2h away, but I was thinking if there was something close and cozy. He's a big fan of IPAs and barrel fermented wilds above all.

    Any suggestions?

    Cheers and thanks in advance!

Depending where in Fairfax he is staying, here are a couple options. I think High Side would be his best bet though.

High Side is a great beer bar in Fairfax. They offer Taiwanese street food and always have good beer on draft. They also offer beer to go. He can check out their draft and to go beers on their website is www.highsideva.com.

Within walking distance from High Side are Ornery Beer Company and Chubby Squirrel Brewing Company.

Closer to Burke is Bunnyman Brewing, and Fairwinds Brewing is in Lorton.

In Falls Church there is a beer store named Dominion that always has great beer to go, and they also have a bar and restaurant. Down the street is Solace Outpost. Their beer is pretty good, and they usually have plenty of IPAs.

A little farther out is Juicy Brewing in Herndon. They just opened recently, and if he likes IPAs, he would probably like them.

Depending how far he wants to go and how much time he may have, there are tons of options. I live near Fairfax, so let me know if he would like other suggestions.

In addition to what was mentioned above, i enjoyed settle down easy in (western) falls church.

As Griffin said it all depends on where in fairfax he is and how far he's willing to drive.

Definitely echo what @Griffin2 stated. All depends on how much time he wants to spend driving. Aslin's Herndon and Alexandria locations are about 12 miles away is opposite directions but with traffic it'll probably be a 25-30min drive. I would recommend Herndon b/c he could also check out Juicy Brewing which is getting a lot of buzz for their IPAs now that their taproom (old Aslin location) is open. Ocelot and Solace are another 15 mins out from Herndon and do really nice IPAs too.

High Side would be an awesome local Fairfax beer bar with very nice IPAs and BA wilds. Just a quick look through their taplist in Untappd there's Veil, Jester King, Burley Oak, Other Half, EQ, among others on now.
