If you're in a place where it's kind of normal for you to 'curse a blue streak' then, no, kids shouldn't be allowed. I would never expect to hear that kind of language in most places that are known to be family friendly, have food, etc., so I presume that you're not talking about a place like that, and that you are talking about a true bar where drinking is the sole purpose of a customer to be there.

I don't care if people want to bring their kids into the bar, but I'm not going to watch my language or anything just because they made a questionable parenting decision.

My bf and I tried to have a nice, relaxing dinner at a microbrew one night after a rough day, and this was *after* 9 pm (we normally eat before 7, so that says a bit about how crazy this day was without me getting into it). Well, despite being after 9, there were small children EVERYWHERE. I don't know why. For one, we had this long wait, so there were 3 kids in the waiting area running around and literally screaming. I got a headache instantly and went outside in the winter temps (and I hate the cold) because I was losing my mind. Once we were finally seated, we were seated next to this table with 6 children, all under the age of 10, it seemed, and their parents were at a completely different table not watching them. Needless to say, we weren't happy. It's one thing before 8 or 9 pm (I'd still be annoyed as fuck, but I'd at least understand) but that late? What the hell, parents? I have a headache again just thinking about it.

Bar = Adults only. It's where I go to get away from mine so I don't want to see yours. Restaurants are free game with the exception of 50+ a head places. Don't ruin my steak dinner.

I agree with your expensive dinner statement, I mean really why would you bring a 4 or 5 yo to an expensive restaurant then ask do you have chicken strips? No they don't because this restaurant was never intended for children, but nevertheless they find some chicken strips for the kids. Ain't capitalism a *****.

I deal with them enough at work; I'd like an escape from that when I go to unwind with a lovely brew

If bars were meant for children, there would be paper cups filled with crayons and board games available at every establishment.

I realize some of my friends will hate me for saying it.

Fairly quiet, well behaved children? I couldn't care less if they're anywhere I am.

Veritable Calvins on caffeine and sugar highs, indistinguishable from mostly shaven howler monkeys on speed? My business goes elsewhere.

This is actually why I stopped going to one local pub, because the howler monkeys belonged to the staff, and were let loose in the common room. Nope. I don't go drink at the playground, after all.

Definitely not. Kids are a deal breaker for sure. There's one place around here (Schooner's) that lets the kiddies in. A bar, or pub, is definitely not a good place for kids. Hell, sometimes it's not a good place for adults.

If there's food & it's not too snooty & I don't think twice about bringing my kids. If doesn't look like a place kids shouldn't be or they won't be welcome; we don't go. I did go to a place that had a kid's menu & they were blaring profanity-laced rap (after we came in & ordered) ( 1PM on a Saturday) & the waitress looked at me like I was crazy when I asked them to turn that crap down or off. Not something I really enjoy with my burger & craft beer...

The rugrats are best when they are left at home. Or chuckie cheese.

As a father, I frequently take my son along with me to pubs (I grew up in the UK, where it is the norm), but rarely bars.

When people say "no kids after 8-9 pm", what age are we talking? I've been in the restaurant business a long time and seen shit head kids behave horribly at 13 and be well behaved at 6.

I'm sorry, but I have to vote leave the little brats at home. I love kids, but a bar is a place for us to get away from them. Besides, why would an adult go drinking with their child? It's not a buzz kill?

It depends on the nature of the bar, but I will not frequent a place with children running about any more than I will frequent a place with undergraduates pounding Bud Light and Jäger. If I go to a bar it is to enjoy good craft beer on draft and meet interesting people who share my enjoyment of it and nobody under 21 can hang out in bar while tasting and discussing great beer in this country.
