maybe it was the frilly glass vs. the beverage she was steering him away from....

This has never happened to me. And if the bartender was snooty about it, well god help them, a tongue lashing from a beer nerd can be quite embarrassing. Can you say penny tip?

maybe he wanted the frilly glass*

    * - Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Absolutely. The bartender should be there to sell the product, but they need to communicate with the customer to make sure they get something the customer will enjoy.

The bartender ought to be there to serve the customer what they want. That involves conversing to the customer, asking them what they like, have they had such and such before, etc. Sure, the bartender can interject their own opinions; not everyone likes the same thing, but they need to be respectful of the customer. That's why I hate going into bars when they can't spare me a moment to talk about the selections. This isn't rocket science.

I can see the bartender making a comment about this specific drink because I'm certain a lot of people (mainly dudes) might complain about it after they taste it. Maybe she's just saving herself the hassle of having to pour something else for the guy and dumping a perfectly good beer ($$ down the drain). It could've been worded differently but I bet she was joking.

Are you implying that you've had dead bartenders? And they made fun of your orders?

Pretty rude, even for the dead.

Wow... Call the bar and talk to the manager? She should surrender her job to someone who actually has customer service skills. Clearly the bar decided to sell that sort of beer, so she is disserving the company by criticizing your choice. She needs a job as a janitor.

Maybe she could have stated it better but for what the other person said about location (casino) I bet after the tenth time a guy ordered it and sent it back because it came in a frilly glass and he was to "masculine" to drink it she started trying to stop that before it happened.

I highly recommend visiting Köln (Cologne) on your next trip. Beers, served on 0.2 liter "Stange" keep coming until you tell 'em to stop.

    I doubt it... .
With a name like frambois I don't think it comes off as manly in the slightest. The person ordering it knows what they are getting into.

I had a bartender criticize me a few weeks ago for ordering a SN Torpedo. He said he drinks "dark beer with flavor....not those watery pale ales."

I believe he was going for a Chuck Norris type of joke lol

Holy shit you guys have surprised me with the 'vocal' bartenders you've had. Unless I truly look lost or I ask you for advice, I don't really need your input. If it's a BWW and they get some Gueuze on tap, then maybe you should mention that the beer has these and these characteristics because the crowd is going to be unfamiliar. Otherwise I should be able to order an appletini with an umbrella and you should keep your opinion to yourself. The girly comment was totally uncalled for

Another case of "Wow I really don't care what you prefer" (unless I ask of course)

Perhaps i wasn't referring to the fact that it was frambois, so much as fruity due to the raspberries. Fruit beer is not very "manly".

I wouldn't have left her a tip. It's that simple.

I say always carry around pennies. Tip exactly 2 cents. It leaves a clear message: You are a tipper but the service warranted your two cents ( some people don't believe in tipping like in the movie reservoir dogs. Its good to distinguish that you are a tipper regardless of the shit service).
