The truth about what? If you're referring to me ordering a "girly" drink you'd be incorrect seeing as my brother wanted it. In addition, what is wrong with ordering a drink like this? Everyone is entitled to order whatever drink they want. If you have no helpful/critical input on this thread, which you clearly don't, just leave. Thank you.

A bartender has no right saying what you will or will not like if they don't know you. I'm a regular at a local spot which has 50 rotating taps. When I walk in, I ask what I'll like, and ask for that knowing that the bartender knows my style. If I walked into a new place, not knowing the bartender and they told me what I do or do not want, I'll tell them exactly what I think about their bartending skills and choice of beer styles.

On two occasions I have had such terrible service that I have not tipped. Both times I have told the server that their service was grossly substandard and that they were not getting a tip because of [specific example(s)]. Both times the servers looked at me like I was a complete asshole. Maybe I am an asshole but I hope it helps them do a better job and get better tips in the long run.

Yea, I do agree: that post's phrasing was a bit wonky. I'll be sure to double and triple proofread my posts for proper verb tense usage from now on...

Ahem... Back to the actual topic of the poster...

I'm happy to say that I've sampled Old Chub and several other Oskar Blues beers since that experience.

I'm way late on this, but if a bartender ever criticized my choice, I would just leave without a word. You're paying their fucking bills.

Are you implying that the French language is not manly?

No, but that fruit beer is not "manly". By the way I think the whole "manly" attitude is very ridiculous.

The caveat that I place on this is that this offer to re-fill your glass if it is empty only applies for two reasons:

    1. You're a regular; and/or
    2. You are drinking at the bar and not at a table.

Other than this don't expect to get another one without asking.

I've had this experience about 6 times and 5 of them were female bartenders.

I've been complimented on my beer choice dozens of times. Put down, not so much. But then again, if I may so humbly brag, I have excellent taste in beer.

So far my best one yet has been the bartender @ Fatheads trying to warn or discourage me from my ordering of Bell's Best Brown Ale on cask. 1st explaining what a cask beer was, yeah I got it...then delivering it with a "here's your piss" blast. I had a good chuckle shooting back, "what's up w/that?" The response, "I'm just not a fan of cask beers."
Didn't catch his name but, but he's there every time I have been & looks like the character on their bottle. Fatheads has great stuff & sometimes even better guest taps, I chalked it up to the fact I ordered only guest stuff that night. Can't handle the competition, then don't offer it...again Fatheads has great stuff, just a funny story & dude was jovial enough about it that the comment made me laugh while at the same time being a bit of a WTF, moment.

This is the perfect opportunity to have some fun with the bartender. I would have replied, oh so you know all about this beer? Can you let me know how you compare it to others of it's style? Maybe you can critique it with me as I would enjoy sharing some of it.

Seriously, some of you are too easily offended. Lighten up and have some playful banter.

I normally eat out on a Saturday lunchtime , sitting down away from the bar and if nice outside. When the food arrives I am always asked if there's anything else they can get me which is usually another pint. This will be brought out to me, often with a side glass for topping up if there's too much head on the beer.

Just wanted to write the same. The same also goes for the beer halls in Düsseldorf. If you put the coaster on top of your glass, that's the signal for them to stop.

Hi, all.... I'm a GM at a restaurant/bar in CT.

I am not shocked by this thread at all.
Servers today are getting away with murder, and their bosses don't even know how bad it's getting.

On topic, LINDENMEN'S LAMBIC costs A LOT OF MONEY per case.
So, the person who orders the beer for the company has committed to an exotic novelty, especially in the States.

We sell the 12oz bottle here for $12.95.

    $12.95!!

The fact that a customer wanted a beer/whatever for $12.95 is all I care about! That the server is there as my salesman is enough for me to think she has the company's best interests at heart.

This kind of attitude displayed in front of me will get an employee a verbal warning, a written disciplinary file, and a 'shop' (strict watch on their shifts and conduct, right down to their uniforms) for a whole month.

NOW: You people who are going to bars and paying these horrible servers (excluding the good ones, which I know are out there), remember, you DON'T HAVE TO TIP. It's gratis, not mandatory. I implore you to vote with your wallet, be it at the Theatres, the Grocery Store, The Gas Station, or the bar!

I've worked with too many servers who take over half of what they make and just shove it up their noses anyway!
