    Hey guys!

So I am putting BA's Top 250 on my bucket list, but I wanted to know a few things. First, how often does the list change? Also, is there a way I can track what beers are on the top 250 by state, brewery, or by a direct search tool? Thanks!

It is based on ratings and reviews so it does change often. That challenge might be better suited to the "beers of fame" category. It is on the right side of the screen when you click the "top beers" page. You will also find the Best beers by state right below that on the right side of the screen as well but I think that list is only the top 100 by state. Cheers!

If one of yours falls out of the 250, then you just have to drink one more good beer. It changes significantly year to year. It will take you some time to get the 250 done (maybe years). Go back and look at it year to year, you will notice quite a bit of new beers knocking some of the lower 250 out regularly. Good Luck.

The list changes constantly. If you are trying to tick the top 250, my advice would be to record that list somehow and make that your 250 bucket list to tick. No way you can keep up with the every changing BA top 250.

Also, be prepared. That 250 list will take you many, many, years to complete. That is, unless you are extremely wealthy and/or have unlimited free time to travel across the country for various beer releases.

As a reference, I set out to tackle the BA top 100 list several years ago (before there even was a top 250 list). I have still not completed it. The first 50 were done in no time, the next 25 took probably 6 months, the next 15 took about a year and a half, and the last 10 have taken a couple years and still aren't done yet (but this is the year I track down BVDL and Blabaer, I'm sure of it!).

Anyways, good luck. Its a lot of time/money/effort/energy, but it is a damn fun process!

Thank you guys, I really appreciate all of the feedback! My assumption was that the beers in the Hall Of Fame were all retired meaning they'd be incredibly, incredibly hard to get. Maybe I am wrong!

Its all about the process, really. And plus, it's something fun to do, even if I never get it done!

Yup, I would print it out tomorrow and attack it that way. They are several "shelf beer" on the list that you will probably be able to easily get tossed into trades or find locally. Don't go nuts trying to land those...they won't be hard.

There are a bunch of seasonals that are available now (Hopslam, Abrasive) that won't be around long.

PLEASE research before putting up trade requests:
    • Please don't put up a trade for Pliny the Younger. It is tap only and no growlers.
    • Mornin' Delight ain't happenin'
    • Ditto KBBS (Kentucky Brunch Brand Stout)
    • Also Bourbon Vanilla Dark Lord...
    Have fun!

Are Mornin' Delight and KBBS not tradable? What did you mean by those aren't happening?

Beers of Fame: "Respect. 250 classic brews with 10+ years on BeerAdvocate."

As for the Top 250, since they changed the formula for calculating that list a whole slew of incredibly rare beers have been added making completing the list significantly more difficult (lottery only beers, special release only beers, available in one location, city, state, etc.). I have come to terms with the fact that I will probably never even reach 150. But, for the very wealthy literally any beer can be purchased on beer auction sites but some of the bottles can run $400 or more.

He means you'd need to give up half a cellar worth of rare goodies to score just one bottle of either of these and if you're just starting out with the Top 250 he's right, it's just not happening.

I mean, I'm not sure im "just starting out" with the Top 250. I've had Hopslam, Heady, beers like that. My cellar collection is building but I certainly understand that some beers are just too hard to get.

I think he means u will literally need to trade away your first born or have a better chance at winning the lottery than scoring any of those whales

Search the trade forum for what folks offer for those beers. Or search what people who have them are looking for in return. My assumption is that you may not have the ammo to pull those brews. (My apologies if you are sitting on a cache of rare lambics.)

haha not quite, but the BCBS Variants I have hopefully get more valuable with time. I just started a few years ago so really, whether it's in one of these Beer It Forward processes or winning a beer lottery I could get some pretty rare stuff. Hey, anything can happen. As I alluded to earlier, it's all about the chase!

BCBS Variants like Prop or Vanilla Rye? I think that may get you 1/4 of the way to the top 2 TG Stouts.

Trillium access will help with knocking off many of the lower tier brews.

Advice: take your time, research, don't get in over your head with trading. It gets expensive and time consuming.

Yeah Trillium and Tree House should help me out a little bit. The BCBS' I have, some date to 2012 but are the regular ones, a few Barleywine, and a few Coffee's from this year.

Will take at least a few thousand bucks and tons of trading.. but it's doable!

Anyone know why the rating that shows on the Top 250 is different than when you click on the beer and see how its rated?

Take the top 250 with a grain of salt. Most of the beers only have a few hundred reviews.

Once they reach a larger market, the beers' ratings always dip.

If I were you, I'd focus on the "best beers" with thousands of reviews. More than likely those will stay in the top 250 because the mean won't fluctuate as much with more reviews.
