I'm hoping things return to normal at the ol' ballyard this summer so I can get back to chasing MY dream:

Yeah, that's a tough market out there. Maybe if you all agreed to live without air conditioning and an increased carbon foot print you could be nuke free.

I work in the fossil fuel industry and am also considered an undesirable. I completely agree with your observation. The problem is, too many people out here really believe that all we need is more rooftop solar panels and wind turbines and all will be good. I am a huge supporter of nuc. I also do geothermal and hydrogen energy work. I am a believer in an energy mix but this freakin' state is bat sh*t crazy full of extremists with unsupportable visions of a CA utopia. My employer is a very large international consulting company based in the EU and they have done the energy demand and supply assessments for global applications (since our success is tied to the energy industry, including fossil, wind, solar, etc.) and let's be clear....wind+solar is not going to meet CA or the world power requirements within the next several decades.

I've been in the beer industry for twelve years, ever since I turned 21 while at Purdue. I worked at a bottle shop on campus until I graduated. I couldn't find a job in a hospital for nine months so started working at the best liquor store in Indiana when I moved home while I was studying for further certifications. I got promoted quickly so stuck around then eventually started Black Friday in Indianapolis before it was a thing outside of Chicago. That put me on Goose's radar. I was recruited to sell beer on their behalf and did so for a couple years for the evil empire. I became a Cicerone. Then I was let go in the infamous Black Thursday of September 2017. Now I've been with the same brewery for over three years. Life couldn't be better.

    Cheers!

Wow, times have changed! I had to walk across the street from front campus for my beer.

I mainly used to work in localisation and QA for a couple of different computer and video game companies, like Square Enix, Sega and Blizzard. Language testing, proofreading and translation, for the most part, worked in London, Paris and Tokyo. Really used to be a dream job for me, but if you turn your hobby into a job, that actually kinda tends to ruin the hobby for you in the long run.

Before that I started a cook apprenticeship, which I quit after about a year, and briefly worked in retail and as a mailman for a while. These days I keep myself afloat with some freelance translation work, while volunteering at my local animal shelter in my free time. I'd actually like to turn that into a full-time job while I dream about working at a national park in New Zealand or Canada.

Account Manager for a physician recruitment product suite used by recruiters at Hospitals, Medical Groups & Academic Institutions. I've been with the company well over 15 years. This allows me to travel some (currently that's all on a hiatus). Regarding beer in all of that ,thankfully Chicago is one of my areas. Just wish I had Michigan and California. There are not many clients in Massachusetts or Vermont and I don't have them either.

I cringed at this response, though I'm not sure whether it was at you for writing it or me for understanding it. Not that I'm in IT. I'm...

If that hasn't been posted or referenced in the 7+ pages I haven't read, I'm disappointed; almost as much as the poster that can't spell "shepherd." Though the technology that allowed Google to understand the mistake... (time to digress)

First off, I’ve really enjoyed reading this thread. It’s super cool to find out what you online personas do, or did, for a living.

I’m a physical therapist assistant at an outpatient clinic. My clinic employs athletic trainers working with several local high schools and the community college. I treat most of their athletes as well as other patient populations and I love what I do. Great hours, good co-workers, and serviceable pay.

I wasn’t going to add this to my post but I am proud of it so I will.

I am also a writer and have about a dozen publications. Been doing so for the past two and half years.

For over 20 years I worked for a flexible packaging company. Basically printing and manufacturing coffee bags that you see on the store shelves: Starbucks, Folgers, Dunkin, EOC, Gevalia, etc.
Then we moved to Florida 5 years ago. Now I work for an FAA licensed repair station (called a 145). We repair all types of aircraft parts, mainly pneumatic and hydraulics. I work in purchasing which involves the quoting and acquisition of the parts for our techs.
FYI: Aviation is a stressful business! Stressful but fun!

In the old days, some states allowed 18 or 19 year olds to drink. I was an undergrad at Portland State OR in the 60s. The good news was that the Chocolate Moose Tavern was 1/2 block from the Science Bldg. The bad news was that the 21 year age limit was very strictly enforced. Though it was not a problem for the many older students returning from Nam. I worked at Illinois Inst. of Tech. in Chicago in the mid 70s and they still had a campus bar for students (21+) and staff.

    Fascinating thread.

Worked in various restaurants as a kid until I moved to go to school in LA. Worked as a personal assistant before the term was coined while in school until I got sick of the conflict between earning a living and getting good grades, at which point I dropped out and became a long haul truck driver. Got sick of that one afternoon on Donner Summit when the highway patrol made me chain up to drive through a half inch of slush. Completed my degree three years later and got hired by a TI/light industrial general contractor as a temp. Now I'm a principal in the company.

I wanted to work until I turned 70, but the way business is now…
