Close meaning "car close" or "walking close" ... yeah, there are quite a few breweries "car close" (walking, not so much) - only thing is that on a Tuesday, before 4pm, most of them are closed. Unfortunately the best ones in that area will be closed prior to 4pm -> The Bruery, Valiant & Bottle Logic.

There are a few that will be open before 4pm ... not quite the "higher tier" (IMHO) as the previously mentioned breweries, but still solid -> Bootleggers in Fullerton (I'd recommend this one over the others in this bunch) ... Phantom Ales ... Beach City Brewing ... Taps Fish House

You could always start at Bottleggers then work your way south to The Bruery ... then last stop Noble.

Now if you get there totally early and have enough time to drive 30 minutes each way .... highly recommend Beachwood BBQ & Brewing in Long Beach ... both for excellent food and brews (especially their IPAs) ... they also have a closer location in Seal Beach, but with beach traffic, I prefer the LB location, especially since it's much more roomier.

As far as beer bars in the area ... Hollingshead in Orange is probably the closest to your location ... it's an old deli ... solid selection of taps but can get pricey on both food and drinks.

Follow-up to my above post ... since you get in at NOON and indeed will have plenty of time .. this is what I would do:

Beachwood Brewing for lunch and brews ... then Bootleggers ... then pit stop at your hotel or go directly to Noble ... then hit Angels game

I'd recommend The Bruery but they don't open until 5pm (after Noble opens)

I'm going to in a few weeks to see the A's down there. Are you saying Noble allows you to park there for free?

It does. But it's a 15 minute walk to the stadium. Totally worth it though.

If only you could get a roadie from Noble for the walk....

Disposable cofee cups from Starbucks! (or any other coffee place). They make the walk much more enjoyable. My wife particularly enjoys the part where I frivolously take the lid off to blow into the "coffee" in order to "cool it off" and take a drink.

I'm sure I got Pliny there once .... but that was once out of probably three dozen visits.

Ok this is what I am planning:

Tues Aug 12 Beachwood > Bootleggers > Noble Ale > Angels game

Wed Aug 13-15 Down to SD Stopping for Golf on Camp Pendelton. Would like to hit Pizza Port. Any suggestions which location? Everything else in SD up in the air.

Fri Aug 15 Drive Back to LA after golf near SD. Staying near Dodgers Stadium. Mowhawkbend? anything else close or worthwhile?

Sat Aug 16 SF 21A > Giants game.

Carlsbad pizza port would be good.

My personal preference is the Solana Beach location, but carlsbad is larger and usually a lot more guest taps too.

Tue Aug 12 looks great given your time of availability ... Bruery opens at 5pm so that won't work

When you drive down to SD ... near Camp Pendelton there is a satellite location for Stone Brewing in Oceanside that is very solid!! .... then 5 minutes away is Pizza Port Carlsbad

I think we are going to try to go to Stone Bistro Liberty Station when in SD.

Yeah then no need for Oceanside Stone visit ... but Pizza Port Carlsbad is a damn good place. For specific San Diego suggestions, there is a recent "San Diego Summer" thread that gives the best info ... highly recommend Societe if you have free time in SD.
