I just brewed by second homebrew batch and had a question. For my first batch I used Fermentis dry yeast and activated it by mixing it with water and stirring as stated in the directions. The airlock began bubbling within 18 hours, and vigorous fermentation ensued for 5 days. For my second batch I used White Labs WLP 320. On the vial it says fermentation should begin within 5-15 hours. I'm sitting at 24 and still no bubbling in the airlock. I did not use an activator. I just aerated the wort, shook the vial and pitched the yeast. Should I be concerned that fermentation has not started? I'm new to homebrewing and any help is appreciated.
You are probably alright, but anytime I use White Labs yeast(or even wyeast) I make a starter. First of all it tells me that my yeast was still alive, but primarily it increase the yeast cell count so that you are pitching much more yeast than what came in the vial.
