Does this still exist? I had it once about 20 years ago and liked it a lot. I have not seen it since. I know it was a kind of rarity then, but I haven't heard even a whisper of it since...Anyone?

From what little I can find, looks like no:
"Never again will we (have) something like Bass Country Chase Ale[IMG]which celebrated the first hunt of the season by the expert use of Challenger hops."

Bass doesn't even exist anymore  (it's been brewed in Baldwinsville, NY for a few years now).

Were you looking for something similar, or just that particular brew?

Just that brew. I remember it being pretty good, but that was long long ago. Thanks for the update. I suppose I should just use the old Googler next time.

To be fair, it is brewed in England as well. Still not the same, though. I really wish I could go back in time and taste it from several decades ago. My memories of it start in the '80s and although I believe it has gone downhill since then, I am honestly not sure it was even then what it once was. It was certainly different enough from the other beers I drank at the time to give me a life long love of English pale ales, though.

I knew I'd get called on that .

If you had it in the 80s, then chances are that you had it before they cleaned up the yeast. I definitely remember noticing something changing back then.

These days- who knows? The yeast could be unchanged since the 90s, but if the fermentation system is different then you are going to get different results.

Well, but the brewing company, Bass Brewers, Ltd., doesn't exist anymore - divided up by AB-InBev (Interbrew at the time) and Coors, with MolsonCoors now owning the Carling and other minor brands and the brewery at Burton-on-Trent, and ABInBev owning the Bass name worldwide.

Thus the Bass Ale coming out of the former Schlitz brewery in NY state outside Syracuse doesn't even have to state "Brewed under License" since it is all one big happy family.

I can remember being given my 1st Bass right down to the smallest detail of the occasion like people remember 9/11 or the Kennedy/King assassinations. It was that good and became an instant favorite. Life changing!
