I popped one open the other night and noticed the hops had dropped off faster than previous batches.

But yes, DB is one of my standbys – probably the first craft beer I fell in love with.

I too have yet to find a Bastard that I didn't feel was good drinking company...

Double Bastard IMO is too sweet.

I love Backwoods! It is one of the few BA beers that I love to drink fresh.

Sweet and boozy. I enjoy it in small quantities, but that's about it.

Arrogant Bastard is such a great beer that each time I drink it I'm amazed at how good and readily available it is.

And the Lukcy was very good, I think it was out about this time last year? I forget.

Shouldn't have to chase too much... you can still get it online: http://www.portchesterbeer.com/products/Lukcy-Basartd-Ale.html

It's definitely worth a try... pretty damn delicious.

Had my last one a couple of months ago and its no longer very good in my opinion - I loved it fresh though.

My favorite bastard hasn't been mentioned yet, Sappy Slappy Bastard. I love this beer and really hope Founders puts in in the backstage series, or at least on tap again. If you see it, drink it!

I was at a tasting in Jan. and someone opened a 2003 double bastard. Knocked my socks off- tasted great. Prob. one of the best aged beers I've had.

The hop bitterness reminded me of a fresh Big Foot, but the Double Bastard had enough caramel malt sweetness to balance it and such a creamy mouth feel. Still, I think I would enjoy it more aged.

Man, I wish that is what Double Bastard tasted like to me. All I got was some good malt character but that overwhelmed by the strong alcohol presence.

Same here as well. Sitting on one to see if the alcohol mellows out.

I think Arrogant and Oaked are the best of the Bastards, though Backwoods Bastard is up there as well. I can't make it my number one though as the higher abv and bourbon nature make it a sipper and one bottle is almost headache inducing for me.

I had one bottle of Lukcy 13asartd left when I moved in July. It was packed up and found its way into my cellar, where I discovered it last week. It was WAY past its prime. I kicked myself for letting it slip through the cracks.

Lukcy Basaertdd (whatever) I had when it first came out. I should have bought more. I'm currently going to experiment with aging Double Bastard. It will probably turn into a nice Barley Wine.

It does a little bit, but not nearly enough to make it really enjoyable IMO. Let us know what you think when you do finally crack it. How long you planning on sitting on it?
