So, I use Hopville to calculate my recipes. And I use Brew365's mash and sparge calculator to determine my water quantities. My question is this:

When determining batch size, Brew 365 accounts for loss of water from boil off, grain absorption, etc, but I can't tell how Hopville accounts for this, if it does at all. For example, I want to brew a 6 gallon batch. It's clear to me that Brew365 provides numbers that will net me 6 gallons when I'm done. But with Hopville, if I'm aiming for a 6 gallon batch - and Brew365 says I need to start with 7.35 gallons of pre-boil wort volume - should I be increasing my batch size in Hopville so that I end up with 6 gallons? Or is this accounted for already?

Any insight that you can provide would be great. Thank you in advance.

EDIT: Here is a link to Brew365's calculator if you've never used it. I think it's pretty great.

Hopville calculates some things different. I don't think it accounts for losses like equipment loss, trub loss, and grain absorpsion. And I think it has a different constant for boiloff. But it's hard to be sure since its all behind the scenes.

I would just stick to using Brew365 for your water calculations since you can input everything yourself
