Don't know much about Bath nowadays but went to a few pubs, The Raven on Queen Street and The Bell on Walcot Street sometime ago which was pretty good. Funnily enough I was student there many moons ago and our local was downstairs at The Huntsman but looking at the pictures now has seriously gone up market. The fine wines quote did make me chuckle.
However if you decide to get on the train for 15 mins here is my take from another forum on Bristol :

"Live in Bristol so can give you a few pointers. Good list above. Best place at the mo for me is The Lime Kiln, which is a small, quiet, newish spartan pub just behind the Council offices on St Georges Road (The Three Tuns an Arbor pub is just along the road as well as the Bag of Nails). Sources lots of great beer which isn't available in other locals at great prices. Owner came from the Seven Stars next to the Fleece music venue, defo worth a visit, and the ex buyer from the Beer Emporium below.
For "craft" the Beermuda Triangle of the Small Bar, The Old Royal Navy Volunteer and the Beer Emporium (have their own bottle shop) on King Street as well as Brewdog on Baldwin Street will see you right. Sam Smiths King William is also on King Street.
In terms of local brews : Wiper and True (my fave), Arbor, New Bristol Brewery (Super Deluxe Stout is great), Towles, Moors, Ashley Down Brewery, Dawkins (own a string of pubs including the Portcullis and Victoria in Clifton), Crane, Bristol Beer Factory, Bath Ales, Left Handed Giant (affiliated to the Small Bar so should find it there) are all worth checking out. To be honest there's so many springing up like everywhere can't keep track.
Bottle shops : Try Brewers Droop on Gloucester Road. A little un ordered and you may have to blow off the cobwebs but some real cheap gems. Celebrator @ £2.67, Founders Porter £2.80, Centennial IPA £2.90 and lots of locals. For more order try Grape n Grind over the road with Wild Beer Co. and more locals but probably more pricey. Enjoy your trip."
